  • Scholarship Description
  • The Apprentice Ecologist Initiative has engaged tens of thousands of young volunteers (kids, teens, and college-age youth) from around the world in environmental cleanup and conservation projects since 1999. Three (3) scholarships will be awarded annually to the authors of the three best Apprentice Ecologist essays. Applicants should embody the spirit of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative by demonstrating personal leadership and environmental stewardship in their project. Essays will be judged by a committee of Nicodemus Wilderness Project board members, volunteers, and past Apprentice Ecologist award winners. Winning essays have been 750 to 1,500 words long.

    Eligibility:
    -Middle school, high school, or undergraduate college/university (ages 13-21)
    -Conduct your own environmental stewardship project
    -Take photos of your project
    -Write an essay (preferably between 750-1,500 words) about the project and what it means to you
    -Register and upload your favorite photo with the essay
