  • Scholarship Description
  • Each year, the Washington, D.C. Alumnae Panhellenic Association presents a scholarship to young women in financial need who have demonstrated outstanding academic and professional abilities and an intrinsic commitment to philanthropy and Greek Life.

    Eligibility:
    -Member in good standing of a fully-participating sorority of the National Panhellenic Conference
    -Rising sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student in the upcoming fall semester
    -From the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area or attending school in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area

    Applicants must write an essay (250 words maximum), on 8.5 x 11" paper, with 1-inch margins, and using 12 point Times New Roman Font. The essay topic: describe a recent community service project in which you were involved, what you accomplished in the project, and why the experience was rewarding for you. Choose one category:

    1. Greek life, sorority, Panhellenic, collegiate
    2. High school, religious affiliation, career program (i.e. World Teach), club/group (i.e. Junior League)

"OK to Be White" Signs a "Sign of the Times"?

"It's okay to be white" signs were scattered on college campuses across the country, as well as in Canada over the past week. Reportedly, the signs were first suggested on an online chat forum called 4chan, calling on people to place posters in their area on Halloween night. At Harvard Law School, at least 20 handmade stickers with the message "It's ok to be white" were posted on light poles and electrical boxes. Harvard Law's Dean of Students Marcia Sells condemned the posters, stating the posters and stickers are "intended to divide us from one another" and that "HLS will not let that happen here." The Department of Public Works removed the stickers shortly thereafter. Even after they had been removed, the message continued to circulate via social media through hashtags and videos, gaining both condemnation and support. [...]
