I am a senior at John F. Kennedy High School graduating in 6/2021. I am the first in my entire family to graduate from High School and pursue a college education.

My mother has lost her job due to the pandemic and my father has not been apart of my life, so I have had to save money on my own to attend college. A scholarship like this would greatly help me to provide income to attend a 4 year.

I have decided to go to school to help myself be successful later in life. Since I am so young, FAFSA has required me to use my parents information. Since my parents make a decent amount of money, I was not able to receive any financial aid. I am currently living on my own and providing for myself without any help from my parents. This scholarship would help my so much with all of my school expenses.

As a result of my legal status I have not been granted with the opportunity to obtain federal funds. My single mother is not in a position to pay thousands of dollars a year for me to continue my education and therefore I am in search of scholarships to help me fulfill my educational goals.

Receiving a college degree is part of the American Dream that I would love to pursue. However, the cost of college is not affordable for my family and I. Families from all over the country struggle with finding student loans, financial aid information and then lead to student debt which tends to lead to much stress. Applying for scholarships like these help encourage myself and others to continue to strive for the live the lives they aspire to have.

I meet all the criteria for this scholarship except for one. I don't meet the financial need requirements. Although my parents both work and their combined income excludes me from receiving financial aid: they are not in a position to pay for my college education at most of the colleges I am interested in attending.

University to Give New Students Free Laptops for Filing the FAFSA

April 6, 2021

by Izzy Hall

The coronavirus made laptops a necessity for college students. Where before students without personal computers or laptops could use on-campus computers and provided software to meet the technological needs of their courses, the shift last spring to online classes necessitated that students have a stable internet connection and a compatible device. While the majority of students were able to meet this requirement, according to a study by EDUCASE, some students found themselves without a modern laptop that could run the most up-to-date browser, use RAM-heavy software or keep up even with reliable high-speed Wi-Fi. One university has announced a unique remedy for this technical situation. [...]

The Longest Wait List Ever? What to Expect

March 31, 2021

by Izzy Hall

When students hear back from colleges in the coming weeks, they may not get a firm acceptance or rejection, but rather get put on the wait list. Getting waitlisted is a normal part of the college admissions process, but some experts say that this year the wait list could turn into the longest it has ever been. A combination of the effects of the coronavirus on colleges, changes in application policies and an increase in applications at top colleges may contribute to a difficult wait list period. [...]
