  • Scholarship Description
  • A scholarship will be awarded to an upper class student who demonstrates financial need and academic promise. The applicant must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.00 or higher. Preference will be given to junior or senior students from the Barnes County area.

    The scholarship was established by Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson, a North Dakota Engineering firm with offices in Valley City, and the Windish family. John Windish was a lifelong resident of Barnes County, a man of integrity and high ethical standards, who worked for nearly 50 years with the Barnes County Highway Dept., serving as Road Superintendent for 27 of those years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Windish believed strongly in education, public service and community involvement, serving on a city council for 26 years in Fingal, ND. He was the recipient of the distinquished Excellence in County Government Award in 1990 by the North Dakota Association of Counties. He served as past president of the North Dakota Association of County Engineers and received their awards of Superintendent of the Year in 1982 and Life Member in 1999. Following his retirement in 1998, Mr. Windish was employed with Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson, Valley City. John's vision was to always make the world a better place for those who follow through education, example and dedication to one's family and career.
