  • Scholarship Description
  • FIRSTheatre is pleased to offer the Joseph Ayala Scholarship for Young Artists to current high school students (juniors or seniors) who are actively involved in their school drama department. FIRSTheatre will award one scholarship (nonrenewable) to the student who is able to demonstrate how their participation in their school performing arts program has prepared them to pursue their higher education at an accredited college or university in the United States.

    Eligibility:
    -A U.S. citizen
    -Enrolled at an accredited high school as a junior or senior at the time the scholarship is awarded
    -Pursuing higher education at an accredited college or university in the fall (for seniors) or next fall (for juniors)
    -An active member of their school drama department. Eligibility is not restricted to student actors and actresses; student crew members, costume designers, pit musicians, etc. are also encouraged to apply
    -Able to demonstrate a minimum 3.0 GPA

    Students must submit an essay (500–750 words) that explains how the performing arts have equipped them to pursue their education and career goals beyond high school. Since FIRSTheatre believes that the arts have relevance in all areas of life, students pursuing any course study are welcome to apply as long as they clearly explain in their essays how arts education has influenced their future field of study.
