  • Each year more than 1,700 student finalists earn the right to attend the prestigious Intel ISEF as a result of winning an Intel ISEF-affiliated fair at a local, regional, or national level. Intel ISEF finalists compete for more than $5 million in awards and prizes and are judged on their creative ability and scientific thought, as well as the thoroughness, skill, and clarity shown in their projects.

    Students in grades 9-12 or equivalent must compete in an Intel ISEF-affiliated science fairs around the world and win the right to attend the Intel ISEF. Each affiliated fair may send a pre-determined number of projects to the Intel ISEF (as factored by participation and high school population) to compete in 22 different categories.

    Awards are $3,000, $1,500, $1,000 and $500 respectively in each of the 22 categories. The top winner of the Intel ISEF receives the Gordon Moore Award, and $75,000, with the next top two winners each receiving a $50,000 award.
