I am applying for this scholarship mainly for the opportunity to have my voice heard about this country, and to accomplish my dreams of attending college in a couple years time without going gravely in debt. My family is putting my sister through college, and are barely able to afford day-to-day necessities, so I would never want to become a financial burden to the people who i love the most.

Elijah C  on 9/22/2020 3:53:32 PM

I’m applying for this scholarship because I’m a sophomore in high school and I want to become a lawyer. I live with my mom and she’s on a fixed income so winning any and all of the scholarships that I can get will definitely help pay for my college.

Terrion H  on 9/20/2020 2:08:39 PM

I am applying to get the most amount possible so I don't have to worry about not having enough money to attend college. I hope I win so everything is covered and tell my grandma that everything is covered so she doesn't have to worry.

Victoria F.  on 9/18/2020 9:44:04 AM

I am going to be applying for this scholarship. My Great Uncle Barney was a veteran from Vietnam, and his story of receiving three purple hearts inspired me to become a combat medic or a field surgeon in the army. The army pays for a good portion of student loans due to the post 9/11 GI Bill, but it is not enough to cover my future medical school debt. I want to be able to support my country's heroes, but being in over $150,000 of student loans debt is scary. I want to be able to get a head start on retirement funds so I can foster more teenagers when I retire. This is a great opportunity and I am thankful that it is being offered to us high schoolers.

daniel r  on 9/17/2020 12:33:26 PM

i'm definitely applying for this scholarship. Even though im a sophomore,I wanna be ready to know what i'm applying for and not be stuck and not know what to do.

Jessica J  on 9/16/2020 11:28:57 PM

I'm applying for this scholarship because as of recently, my mom has unfortunately had to make the decision to separate from her husband of thirty years who coerced her to become financially dependent on. She is currently unable to work because of a broken leg from a motorcycle accident which she has been having complications for over a year now from and we only have six months before her husband takes the house. I want to become a psychologist and open my own private practice one day as well as work with DCFS so I can help those who are in similar situations like me aside from this recent incident.

Taylor B  on 9/11/2020 1:10:44 PM

I'm definitely applying for this scholarship. Coming from a divorced family and not living with either parent, I have to come up with the money for my EMT schooling somehow. I am interning with a radio station at my highschool to the audio portion is what I am excited to do. I dont want to get a bunch of loans in which is gonna take a long time to pay off, when I could be putting that money towards something in which can make my future the best possible.

Zephennia J  on 9/9/2020 6:26:16 PM

I’m applying for this scholarship because, I want to be prepared for college bills. Also, because this would help for campus bills and other materials that I might have to pay for. Additionally, Cause no one wants to be in debt or stress about how I’m going to pay for these bills. So I’m encouraging myself and others to apply. Because you never know that you or me might get the scholarship. The point I’m trying to make in this, is be encouraged and take every opportunity seriously and just go for it.

Jaliyah L  on 9/8/2020 2:56:32 PM

I need this scholarship because I am living with my grandmother who is the only adult taking care of me working minimum wage this scholarship would help me lots thank you!!

N'ycynt M  on 9/8/2020 11:31:35 AM

I will be applying to this scholarship. I'm in 10th grade I've always been told to think ahead so I don't want to wait till my senior year to apply for a scholarship. My family doesn't have enough money saved for me to go to college so this would be a true blessing.

Catherine R  on 8/24/2020 7:55:15 AM

I'll definitely be applying for this scholarship. My student loan debt will be expensive if I don't get scholarship money, and I will use it to better be free of worry of the deadline in which student loans must be paid.

Shamiah S.  on 8/23/2020 1:43:45 PM

I need this scholarship because, I don’t want to wait until my senior year in high school to apply for one. I want to be prepared and not have to worry about anything!

Lola P  on 8/22/2020 8:21:00 PM

I want this scholarship because of my passion and eagerness to make something of myself in the future and offer something crucial to this world. Without the the help from parents to pay for college, I am aware that paying monthly student loans and being in debt is reality to many people who just want an education. With this scholarship, I will be able to work toward my goal in medicine or optometry. Hopefully, I will one day be able to help other college students financially.

Fatima O  on 8/1/2020 8:44:57 PM

The future. My future to be exact. As a senior in high school and the child of two immigrant parents I need this more than anything. I'm the first in my family to try to reach a career through a college education. But like everything else in this world, I need to work harder to reach my goal of studying urban and regional planning to help my and other communities. It's a big goal, but that's what we work hard for.

Devan F  on 7/24/2020 4:34:30 PM

I am applying for this scholarship because it would make going to college more affordable. I have managed to keep my GPA at 3.75 to increase my chances in scholarships. Thank you for this opportunity.

Alicia G  on 7/20/2020 12:20:03 PM

I need this scholarship because i've been working my tail off to do good in school and to be able to go straight into college. I can't decide between majoring in Psychology or Political Science. I have to pay for my college and I would really love to be able to go to the college I want too so I can pursue my college career at the college I want.

Daniel G  on 7/20/2020 10:22:35 AM

I’m in high school, and there have been some parts of my life where money has been hard to come by. This would help a lot.

Naomi M  on 7/14/2020 2:02:56 AM

I'm going to apply for the scholarship because it's the least I can do for my parents. My parents are not from this country they've work so hard to get us where we are at. We have a roof over our head because of the endless hours of work that my parents put in. I want to graduate from college with that beautiful degree in my hand telling my father that I did it. I want him to know that all his hard work and sacrifice has paid off. The least I can do is apply for scholarships when he was in hot factories providing for his family at my age. I have the resources that he never had. I'm mainly talking about my father because he suffered the most when he lost his father at age 15. I want him make him proud and his country proud. I want him to know that he raised me well. I'm doing this for something bigger than me. Because the day I buy my parents a house is the day I can say that I did it. My job to them is to be a successful women.

James Thomas  on 6/28/2020 6:49:10 PM

I am a high school junior starting my senior year of high school. As a kid I struggled alot with mental health and fell far behind in accademics. Eventually I learned to open up and use my voice to ask for what I need to succeed. Democracy made that possible letting me speak my thoughts and feeling without having all my anger. I need the scholarship money to Perdue my degree in computer engineering and to help the those in need like they have done to me. With my degree I would like to save up money and open up a gaming business that 10 percent of all profits go to charity. My passion is computers and I need the money to make my dream come true. I think I can use the scholarship for good and give back to my community.

Teagan T.  on 6/5/2020 11:18:24 AM

This scholarship is very important to me. I am an African American woman with a lot of potential. I want to make it easy on my parents when it gets to my college tuition. :)

Evelyn T  on 5/1/2020 1:08:08 PM

I am interested in applying for this scholarship. I am very intent on pursuing a career political science and I want to get my work out there. I am a freshman student. My family is very historic and involved in politics. I tend to write very often, but was wondering if I could send my ideas through speech; a video possibly. Would that be feasible? I don't need the money like many other students may, so I'm not sure if it would be rude of me to apply. I am still considering it, but if someone could answer my question that would help me decide.

Akaylah John  on 4/26/2020 11:40:08 PM

I need this scholarship because I want the best future for myself and want to be successful. This scholarship will help put my parents at ease financially and will also help me strive to go to the college of my choice and get a better education.

Nayeli N  on 3/28/2020 10:59:21 AM

I want this scholarship because I’m planning to go to college. I want to have a good career. I want to show all the skills I have. I want to prove that I can get far in life and have a good future. I believe this can help me since I want to be a lawyer. I have a backup to be an engineer. This is the reason I want the scholarship because it will help me.

Kalista B  on 3/25/2020 11:05:06 PM

I need this scholarship so I can go to whatever college will help my career the most. I'm a sophomore in high school and this will help me with my goals in marketing so much.

Donovan Summers  on 2/28/2020 8:52:35 AM

I need this scholarship to help pay my way so my parents do not need to worry,

Serenity B  on 10/23/2019 6:25:33 PM

I'm advancing my highschool career and fear that since my mom got a new job, I won't qualify for financial aid even though I need it. My mom is an artist and I have two siblings. I'm trying my best to find scholarships so I can afford a life without debt.

Aniya R  on 10/21/2019 10:25:03 AM

I want this scholarship because I want my voice to matter. I'm a junior in high school right now and working to do everything I can to get into law school. I believe that I am a passionate speaker and that I speak with purpose. Getting into law school would be a big dream of mine because I want to be the voice of others that do not have one of their own. I set high expectations for myself and I will do whatever it takes to exceed my goals. Having this opportunity would help me a lot seeing that for my major I have to be in school for a longer amount of time. Paying off student loans or being in debt is not what I look forward to in my life. I am a very determined student and I do not settle for less. I refuse to do just enough to get by, I was not raised that way. I do what is expected of me plus more. I take my studies very seriously, and I feel I would be a great winner for ths scholarship.

Ariah P  on 10/17/2019 12:44:19 PM

....why not?

David C  on 10/9/2019 10:10:41 PM

I want this scholarship because i need a push to go towards my goals in life, and a little help along the way can help a ton. Also i do not want to rack up student debt until I am 45.

Rylea H  on 9/30/2019 4:36:46 PM

I need this scholarship because I have 12 siblings. My mom was killed when I was younger, and my step dad was charged with manslaughter(he was the one who killed her). Since I have such a large family I can’t afford college. I don’t want to live in debt. I’ve always wanted a voice. I have an opinion. Domestic violence has become such a huge aspect in my life. I need college. The world we live in know asks for that. Minimum wage is being lowered while the price of living is being raised. Reading everyone else’s comments I notice everyone needs this. If I don’t win I’d be so happy to know someone else on this site was able to win. Good luck to the person reading this comment.

tiffany t  on 9/26/2019 5:35:55 PM

I want this scholarship because i don't want to stress my parents that much for paying for my two older sisters colleges and then next mine. My parents need money also to pay for bills and with this scholarship they don't have to worry about paying a lot for my college. Even though i am a freshman in high school i want this scholarship because i don't want to wait last minute when i need to pay for my college. Once i get into college i don't want to get a student loan because then in the future i would have to pay that one off.

Sutten E  on 9/26/2019 2:39:23 PM

I applied for this scholarship because I live with my mom and she is working two jobs just to get my brother and I the things we need. I don't want my mom to pay for everything so I want to get as many scholarships as I can. I would like to get a head start on my education and I like to be as well prepared as I can. My brother just started his first year of college at DSU. He did not get on top of his work like mom would have liked him to. I want to make my mom proud and I would like to make my school. I want other kids to look up at me and say she was one that got good grades and started looking for scholarships when she was a freshman. Miss South Dakota really inspired me to get started with looking for scholarships.

Kynies X  on 9/16/2019 9:53:50 PM

I want to win this scholarship because my parents isn’t rich and they can’t afford to pay for my college. I have 2 siblings one older brother who is one years older than me and needs money for his college and I have a younger sister who is still in high school. Both my siblings are needing money for their classes so I don’t want to add more pressure to my parents because I need money for my colleges. So I need scholarship to finished college and one day I hope to help my other family members out. Thank You.

kennedy w  on 9/13/2019 7:17:59 AM

I want this scholarship in the sense that everyday I live in houston tx, my parents both went to college and struggled with debt and my father passed away so my mom became a single parent, so mom barley make it through not having an opportunity to have a scholarship. I write this scholarship so that I don't have to go through the hardship's my parents did, so that i don't have to struggle with debt like my parents did or like the rest of my town that is not really educated or is just simply on illegally drugs. I also would love to share my idea's on this essay for the purpose of having a voice, I love politics, I watch the news daily to keep informed because so many people don't research view's or idea's but simply say what has been said to them. I want a better life then the hard life i see everyone having around me, they never worked hard enough to succeed, i plan to make a difference in life. so hopefully some read this and understands where im coming from Thank You.

karen s  on 9/9/2019 5:13:14 PM

I applied for this scholarship because i care about what is going to happen with my future. Even though i am a freshmen in high school i like to think in advanced.

conner c  on 8/12/2019 1:37:48 PM

I want this scholarship in the sense that everyday I live in a small town, my parents both went to college and struggled with debt and both worked two jobs each to barley make it through not having an opportunity to have a scholarship. I write this scholarship so that I don't have to go through the hardship's my parents did, so that i don't have to struggle with debt like my parents did or like the rest of my town that is not really educated or is just simply on illegally drugs. I also would love to share my idea's on this essay for the purpose of having a voice, I love politics, I watch the news daily to keep informed because so many people don't research view's or idea's but simply say what has been said to them. david k revill II  on 7/1/2019 3:03:28 AM

I am applying for the scholarship because my father is a single parent and a retired veteran and he doesn’t have the funds to send me to college but would love for me to go. I have been accepted into a school but I don’t have full funding. I need help. My father is a lifetime VFW member.

Charity E  on 6/26/2019 9:25:37 AM

I am applying to this scholarship because I have a huge family who will not have the funds to support me or my sister when we go to college back to back. I am trying to earn as much money as I can, and so far haven't been that successful with scholarships, but I am hoping that will change. (Amen).

Kamal C  on 6/22/2019 5:43:01 PM

I am applying due to four boys in my family my dad has been stripped of his job due to his race and im willing to learn more to help my family out than you for hearing me out

Jocelyn T  on 6/16/2019 12:29:53 AM

I am applying for this scholarship, because American, every hardship and flaw it presents in its nationhood, is truly a great country, not for what it always is, but for the concept and what it could be, defined by democracy.

Sheridan M  on 5/21/2019 1:16:54 PM

I am in need of scholarships due to my sister being in college without any.

Autumn Jackson  on 5/21/2019 1:06:10 PM

I am not more deserving of this gracious amount of money than any of the other applicants. But I will say that I've been planning to go to college since the 4th grade. In the area that I live in this town, there are more people out in the streets than there are college or high school grads. I am in the second year of high school going on the third year and I'm still going strong. Although I need this scholarship if I don't achieve it it's ok because I won't give up.

hanadi m  on 5/14/2019 6:37:09 PM

I want to get my career and I want to pay my education and to learn further more.

Arlisia B  on 5/14/2019 1:10:18 PM

Yes. I need funds to pay for my education.

morgan l  on 5/2/2019 1:35:55 PM

I'm applying for the Voice of Democracy because it is something I would enjoy writing about in an essay. Also, I don't want to be in debt when I'm older, and my parents will not be paying for my college.

Zachary W  on 4/17/2019 2:19:53 PM

My father served at the end of Vietnam and is now retired. I am applying in honor of his sacrifice for my and your freedom.

Austin H  on 3/7/2019 11:01:47 AM

I'm going to apply because democracy is something defined within, and in the eyes of the beholder. It provides a unique opportunity to express my ideas in a grey area. It opens the border of being too young to have an opinion over said matter.

Nicholas C  on 1/24/2019 1:13:03 PM

I will be applying for this scholarship because I really like the idea of the prompt, and also the fact that for the college i'm planning on going too is very expensive and i need the scholarship to help pay for it.

Harmonie G  on 1/16/2019 3:57:24 PM

I am applying for this scholarship because being a women of color in America I have less chances then others. Applying could allow me to voice my opinions on my political principles and values in the democratic party to then help me pay for college being I am the youngest of six and can not afford it.

Mia B  on 10/28/2018 1:19:28 PM

I applied for this scholarship because I am concerned about the state of our democracy.

Juliet B  on 10/28/2018 12:28:10 AM

I'm applying for this scholarship because I'm about to go to college soon and I don't know how I will pay for it

Madeline E  on 10/24/2018 3:53:50 PM

This scholarship would make going to college affordable, especially since I live with my single mother. Good luck to all of you!

Makayla L  on 10/24/2018 2:15:39 PM

I am applying for this scholarship because I am 1 of 5 kids and next year 3 of us will be in college and we need all the help we can.`

Nathaniel P  on 10/21/2018 6:00:50 PM

I’m going to apply for this scholarship to help pay for my college

ian c  on 10/8/2018 12:01:52 PM

My mother is not going to be able to pay for my college tuition and taking student loans would cause me to be in debt the day i graduate college so if i can win this i can put it into my college funds and not cause my mother to share in my debt. i realize that who i am may not cause a second look but my reasons for winning this fair and square are right just as i'm sure most people who have applied for this have as well. Not only this but there are issues in this corrupted nation that not many have realized the extent of so maybe by speaking about it this would make others see not by being radical or yelling but by sitting down and looking someone dead in the eyes and showing them.

Brinda S  on 9/30/2018 9:57:08 PM

I will be applying for this scholarship because this will assist my parents in help me afford school, I know we will be taking loans, but this funding would certainly go a long way for us.

alexis r  on 9/24/2018 11:51:37 AM

I applied for this scholarship do to being homeless and not having a place to go. I hope that college will get me out of the place that I'm at.

Rebekah S  on 9/24/2018 9:30:58 AM

I'm applying for this scholarship because I need help. My parents said that if they don't get a say in what college I go to then they weren't going to pay for it. I want to go to a college that is going to be good for the career I want to go into. I would be moving to Terre Haute and my mom doesn't like that. So I would have to be on my own for paying for college. This scholarship would pay for almost 2 years of my college.

Amauri b  on 9/17/2018 9:13:34 PM

kelsie j  on 6/19/2018 10:03:59 PM

I applied for this scholarship and hope to receive it, because I can't afford college and being a single mother makes it twice as hard.

Eric N  on 6/13/2018 5:34:48 PM

I applied for this scholarship to assist my parents in paying their bills and further on paying for college due to our low income. My family members suffered many car crashes and so my mother has been paying it off but is still in large amount of debt.

Linda W  on 12/24/2017 10:03:56 PM

I have a dream. I have a reason to reach that dream. I left my house at a really young age. I got married and had a baby. I am currently 18. I would love to be an example for all those girls out there that get pregnant at a young age and think there future is over. I want to tell you all that this life that we now have. Has just begun. That one day our kid will be so proud of us. I want to be a counselor for teens. I want to make a difference in their life. I want them to all know that we were all brought to this world to make mistakes and to experience things. I am a young mom and wife and I love being it but for that reason I want to go to college and graduate with a major on Substance abuse and addiction and a Marriage and family therapy counseling. I believe in myself. I believe I am capable of fulfilling my dreams. This goes to all those young moms out there.

This is an amazing opportunity, and everyone knows how difficult it is to muster up the money needed for college these days. I'm very excited to try this out.

Dalton W  on 10/8/2012 6:32:49 PM

Thank you for the opportunity to get scholarships towards my college education. There are so many young adults depending on the same thing. I would be thrilled if, in fact, I did win one. So excited to try. Great contest and way to win money towards college.

Shalea W  on 8/19/2012 12:26:53 PM

This sounds like a good scholarship I could be interested in and my mom would not have to put any money towards it. My mom is a single parent and I'm sure she would be happy for me and proud that I get a full scholarship. I want to further my education, improve on my test scores and get the money so I can go to college. I'm excited to see what all they have and looking foward to it.

Nicole H  on 5/18/2012 11:53:16 AM

One of the best scholarships out there! I entered last year and was a state finalist... You earn money every step of the way! It is an excellent contest! So excited to try again

I am glad that there are oppurtunities to recieve money this easily. Out here are many, such as me, who only depend on scholarship money to be able to attend to college because unlike others we cannot work because we do not have a social security number. I love the fact that there are people willing to give there own money to simple people like us, who want to follow our dream to be somebody. So to those who donate money for scholarships from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

I am one of the most determined people in this world. With a heart so big i am destined to reach billions who long for a helping hand. I may be young but that has nothing to do with a how large my impact could be. I want to open schools, foster homes, build houses, and even better nursing homes to house those with the wisdom of tomorrow. I am the perfect definition of a dreamer but i am striving to make my dreams reality!

i have always wanted to be something important. i have always dreamed with in being one of the most important people in my life so i can help the people who can't recieve help and listen to the people who can't be heard. all i want is a chance so i can be heard and help my self, my family and my country. i know that opportunities are every where and i have to look for them but if i just kept on looking and no body helped i will never be heard just like those people.

Unfortunately, money is what matters. I hope I can acquire enough scholarships so I am able to bring my goals to fruition.

Test-Optional Colleges Pledge to Judge Applications Holistically

October 22, 2020

by Izzy Hall

In response to the coronavirus pandemic and the way it has made it harder than ever to take the SAT and ACT, many colleges and universities, from large state universities to small liberal arts colleges, have announced that their admissions for next year’s Class of 2025 will be test-optional. Test-optional admissions mean that schools won’t require a submission of a standardized test score as part of the admissions process. But how will admissions officials judge applicants without a score? Will a student who doesn’t submit a standardized test score be penalized in any way? And will a student who does submit a score be chosen over one who doesn’t? [...]

At Scholarships.com, we help students find scholarships to pay for college tuition. But what if you didn’t have to pay tuition? There are a handful of schools in the U.S. that are tuition-free, meaning that while students may have to pay for room and board or meal plans, they do not have to pay tuition to attend the college. On the flip side, tuition-free schools may require students to work alongside their studies or, for military academies, to enlist upon graduation. [...]
