Scholarship Description

The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) provides flexible financial aid to single parent students in most counties of Arkansas and Bowie County, Texas. The maximum award amount is $1,600 per semester.

Scholarship Details

  • Both traditional college students and trade students may apply.
  • You must file a FAFSA in order to apply (unless you are under DACA status or have another ASPSF-approved exemption.)
  • In addition to the cost of attending college, ASPSF scholarship money can be used to cover the costs of childcare, car maintenance, housing, and other indirect barriers to education.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be single parents. To be considered a single parent, you must be:

    • unmarried, widowed, divorced, legally separated, or in the process of finalizing your divorce,
    • the custodial parent of at least one dependent child,
    • and the only adult in the child's household (aside from any relatives or non-co-parenting roommates.)
  • Applicants must be legal U.S. residents or residents with DACA status applying in their county of residence.
  • Applicants must posess a high school diploma or equivalent, but no bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Application Process

  1. Gather required documents, including legal proof of marital status, proof of income, your Fafsa Submission Summary (if applicable), transcripts, your proof of enrollment (if applicable), and your final semester grades (if applicable.)
  2. Complete the application on the ASPSF website.
  3. Submit the application and required documents in advance of the deadline.
  4. Eligible applicants will participate in an interview with the scholarship committee after the submission of their application.

Guidelines may vary depending on the applicant's county of residence. Residents of Benton, Carroll, Madison, Marion, Sevier, Washington, or White County should check the ASPSF's website for the guidelines that apply to them.
