  • The ANNpower Vital Voices Initiative is a groundbreaking partnership between ANN INC., the parent company of Ann Taylor, LOFT and Lou & Grey, and Vital Voices to empower young women from across the U.S. to affect global progress, invest in their communities, and begin their journeys as the next generation of leaders.

    It is an initiative to provide leadership training to girls, empowering them to become the next generation of global trailblazers. Become a leader that will affect change in your community. Attend the ANNpower Vital Voices Leadership Forum. Be eligible to win a grant to put your ideas into action. Girls who are in the 10th or 11th grade at a high school in the United States, Puerto Rico or Canada are eligible to apply for the program.

    Program details:
    -Participate in the ANNpower Vital Voices Leadership Forum, a three-day leadership training in New York City from June 14-17
    -Obtain skills and networks to take on leadership roles in your schools and communities
    -Be mentored by global women leaders who are part of the Vital Voices Global Leadership Network, as well as executives from ANN INC

    After completing the leadership training program, you will have the opportunity to go back to your community and create a project that will affect change, using all that you learned at the Forum to implement your idea. You will also be eligible later in the year to win project grants that will help put your ideas into action. To be considered, you must demonstrate a strong commitment to leadership and potential for creating innovative solutions to problems in your community. You should also have a proven track record in your academic work and interest in extracurricular activities.

Harvard Supporters Back University in Admissions Trial

Harvard students and alumni will testify in support of Harvard during the admissions trial this week, defending its "race-conscious admissions policy" against claims that it discriminates against Asian-American applicants. The trial is the latest chapter in a lawsuit filed in 2014 by Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA).

Harvard University has been accused of "balancing its undergraduate classes to ensure that it had admitted its desired share of students of each race and ethnicity" and also for penalizing Asian-American applicants by "systematically giving them lower scores on a metric admissions officers use to measure personality." Adam Mortara, a lawyer representing SFFA, stated that the university scores applicants in four categories: academic achievement, athletic ability, extracurriculars, and personality. While referencing admissions data, he concluded that, despite their higher academic performance, Asian-Americans are admitted at lower rates. [...]
