Since we need to be sure that the information we share online remains secure and private, companies are looking to hire an increasing number of individuals, called information systems analysts or cybersecurity specialists, who can come up with innovative solutions to online security issues. What is Cybersecurity?

Cybersecurity is the science of protecting networks, data, and devices from unauthorized access or cybercrime, and ensures that information remains confidential. Data breaches have become all too common over the past few years. The largest companies who hold millions of Americans’ (ahem, yours and mine) private details like usernames, passwords and credit card numbers have faced an increasing amount of security threats. Let’s face it, hackers are getting more savvy by the day, so attracting the best and brightest cybersecurity specialists with the skills to develop systems that will prevent new cybercrime tactics is a high priority for companies across the board.

Industries That Are Vulnerable to Cyberattacks

To put it plainly, most companies cannot afford a data breach, and some are more vulnerable than others. According to IBM, data breaches cost businesses over $3 million. According to the FBI, these industries that are most vulnerable to cyberattacks: small businesses, healthcare, government/military agencies, financial institutions, education, and energy/utility companies.

KnowBe4 Scholarship for Black Americans in Cybersecurity

Amount: $10,000

Deadline: April 18, 2022

Scholarship Description: The recipient of this scholarship will receive a $10,000 Scholarship to be applied to tuition, fees, books, electronics and up to $3,000 may be applied to on-campus housing.The recipient will also receive a (ISC)2 Certification Education Package. Applicants must be African American and pursuing, or planning to pursue, a degree in cybersecurity or information assurance, with a GPA of 3.2 or higher.

ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: April 8, 2022

Scholarship Description: ESET North America has empowered women pursuing a career in cybersecurity. This program is for phenomenal, driven women who are who are passionate about being the future of cybersecurity. Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university in the U.S and have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Raytheon Intelligence & Space Women's Scholarship

Amount: $10,000

Deadline: June 15, 2022

Scholarship Description: The recipient of this scholarship can apply their award to tuition, fees, books and required electronics. The recipient will also receive a (ISC)2 Certification Education Package upon graduation. Applicants must be a female pursuing, or planning to pursue, a degree in cybersecurity, information assurance, or similar field. Applicant must be a high school senior, undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in the upcoming fall.
