This year’s Earth Day theme is “Invest in our Planet.” Let’s take some time today to think of ways we can be more conscious of how we use Earth's precious resources, and what simple changes we can make to promote the health of our environment. You can celebrate Earth Day in many ways, big or small. By taking shorter showers, you can help conserve water. Riding your bike instead of driving, when possible, can help reduce pollution. Planting a tree or a garden can help clean the air we breathe. Any efforts you make, no matter how minor they may seem, will contribute to taking care of our Earth. If you’re passionate about protecting the environment, check out our featured environmental activism scholarships.
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Year-round
Scholarship Description: PETA is awarding prizes to students (ages 18 and over) who use their talents to save animals from exploitation by coming up with a game-changing idea that they can develop into a specific action plan or design to replace animal use. From mushroom leather and recycled ocean plastics in the clothing industry as a replacement for animal leather to placentas-on-a-chip that take the place of toxin studies in mice and monkeys, innovation knows no bounds. Applicants are asked to identify an area in which animals are still exploited and to create a potentially patentable, original idea or prototype that allows for their replacement.
