Google hopes to "close the growing digital skills gap and alleviate the European Union's concerns that half a million ICT openings will remain unfilled by 2020." Courses will focus on both Android and web development and the first batch of 60,000 scholarships are open for application but are only available to residents of Europe, Russia, Egypt, Israel, and Turkey. The remaining 15,000 scholarships will be offered by media giant Bertelsmann and will offer courses in data science at both the beginner and intermediate level.

Recipients of the Android Scholarship and Web Development scholarship will be placed into one of two tracks based on experience level. Beginners will learn code and programming from scratch while intermediate-level individuals will get the chance to build interactive multi-screen Android apps, next-generation, and responsive web applications. Scholarship applications for the Android Scholarship and Web Development Scholarship by Google and Udacity are due October 15, 2017. Recipients will be notified October 30, 2017 and will begin their program November 6, 2017. You must be 18 years old in order to be eligible to apply.
