After almost two years of closing their doors to visitors, many colleges and universities have begun opening back up to in-person campus tours, and some will be opening this spring. As you plan your next campus visit, there are a few simple things you can do to prepare and help you make a well-informed decision. To get the most out of your college campus visit, follow these tips.

Browse Their Website & Social Media

Start collecting information about the programs offered, upcoming events, and get a preview of campus life by visiting your college’s website. Most colleges and universities have active social media accounts on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and TikTok that can give you more insight on student life. As you visit your prospective school’s pages, take some time to reflect and write down any questions that come up so you can ask your campus tour guide.

Follow Safety Precautions

As more colleges begin to reopen for in-person tours, please keep in mind that they will likely require that visitors take safety precautions set in place due to Covid-19. This can look like wearing a mask, showing proof of vaccination, presenting a negative Covid-19 test, completing health screenings, or other safety measures.

Reach Out to the Admissions Team

If you’re getting ready to attend campus tours (or you’ve just finished one) and have additional questions, you can always contact your prospective college admissions counselors to schedule a one-on-one appointment.

Opt for a Virtual Tour

If in-person campus tours are not yet offered, many colleges give students the option to participate in livestreamed tours that often include virtual information sessions with a live virtual tour that typically runs 45 minutes to an hour long. These tours are usually led by a current student. In addition, many colleges provide the option of a self-guided tours with interactive content online.
