Scholarship Description

The Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship awarded over two years ($2,500 each year) to a graduating high school senior who will enroll in a two-year community college, a vocational or technical training program, or a specialized program for students with disabilities in the fall.

Eligibility

  • High school senior
  • Enrolling in or accepted to a two-year community college, a vocational or technical training program, or a specialized program for students with disabilities in the fall.
  • Must have a documented learning disability. Students with ADHD and a LD are encouraged to apply.

NCLD requires proof of your learning disability at the time of application. Acceptable forms of documentation include school documentation—e.g., an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a formal document from your school psychologist, school counselor, or a licensed psychologist/psychiatrist.

Application Requirements

  • Applicants must complete an online application.
  • Applicants must also submit their FAFSA information and detailed Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), at least one recommendation, and responses to 3 personal questions
  • The 3 personal questions can be answered in text, video, or audio format.

Previous scholarship winners are from diverse backgrounds across the United States . Some are school leaders, artists, academically gifted, self-starters, and fighting to beat the odds. The main things we look for in our applications is a compelling narrative about you as a potential leader for individuals with learning disabilities. You don’t need to have the best grades or be the best athlete, but show a desire to give back and do good for others.
