Friends of Volo Bog Environmental Scholarship (High School Seniors)

The Friends of Volo Bog is offering one scholarship of $1,000 for an outstanding Lake or McHenry County, Illinois senior high school student interested in pursuing an environmental career.

The Friends of Volo Bog (FOVB) is a not-for-profit organization, established in 1983, and dedicated to the preservation of the area’s natural heritage, maintenance of site facilities, and advancement of educational programming at Volo Bog State Natural Area.

To be eligible for the College scholarship the applicant must reside in Lake, McHenry, Kane, Cook, DuPage, Kendall, or Will County, attend a high school in one of these counties, have a minimum B average for the first three years, and plan to attend an accredited college or university. The applicant should be planning to enter a career directly related to preserving the environment. Applications are due by the fourth Friday in February.

The Board of Director of the Friends of Volo Bog will appoint a committee to decide on the recipient of the scholarship. Selection will be based upon evidence of scholarship, career plans, and the essay included in the application.

The deadline varies by year but is usually in late February. The recipient and school will be notified by mail during the following April. We will be pleased to award a certificate to the recipient during the school awards ceremony in May. Students are encouraged to submit the applications early.

The FOVB is now offering a $1,000 scholarship for college students. Please encourage outstanding students to reapply for this scholarship next year.
