Olamida. O  on 9/26/2020 2:53:08 PM

Hi, my name is Olamida Omofojoye Im a senior at Elsik High school and I'm applying for this scholarship because I truly need the money for college. I only have my mom and she doesn't have the money to financially support me through college especially trying to make a way for my older sister in college. Growing up, I faced a lot of things such as, my father passing away to not having a roof over my head. But no matter what my family was facing my mother always found a way for me and my sister to be happy and comfortable. Even to her last penny. These experiences made me who I am today and that would never change. This scholarship would mean the world to me. And if I do win this scholarship I don't have to worry about taking out student loans or be in debt in the nearest future.

Hi. I am a Trinidadian and I have been accepted into Georgia Gwinnett College. I will attend in the fall studying psychology and minoring in criminal justice. I love everything about psychology and the criminal justice. When I graduate and get my degree I plan on becoming a forensics psychologist. I want to make a difference and I know for sure that the road I’m heading down will get me there if I work hard. However I cannot afford some of the costs for tuition to further my education. I pray that god will make it happen and this scholarship could be it.

Dominique McKenzie  on 7/17/2020 6:42:30 AM

Hi, my name is Dominique McKenzie I’m getting ready to start my very first year at palm beach state college and I’m applying for this scholarship because it would really help me out with me getting my bachelors degree in business administration. Michael Hilliard  on 6/26/2020 10:00:31 AM

Greetings. I am applying for this scholarship because I think I have the tools and ambition needed in order to have a successful business career. Having been raised by my grandparents I understand that one day it will be my responsibility to give back to young students like me. I plan to grow and learn so that I am able to bring these skills back to the community that has played such an important part in shaping me into being the young black man that I can see myself becoming. Although my grandparents cannot afford to send me to school, they did give me all the tools I need to work hard and achieve this goal. Thank you for your consideration as you make the difficult choice or awarding this scholarship.

Madison E  on 6/26/2020 8:56:33 AM

Hello! I have a question? I'm a high school student in the 11th grade and in the dual program. I have 3.35 GPA in the Dual program and 98% in high school. Do I have to wait until I'm a senior to apply for the scholarship?

Camille M.  on 6/16/2020 8:17:26 AM

Good morning! Receiving this scholarship would mean the most to me. I was recently accepted into my #1 four-year university and it is an HBCU, but tuition is unfortunately very high. I come from a one-parent household with low income. My mom is currently trying to pay my way through college as well as my sister's. Things have been very tough for me ever since the pandemic began and winning this scholarship would lift a great weight off of not just mine, but my mother's shoulders.

Mikeila D  on 5/29/2020 3:59:56 PM

My name is Mikeila Dobbins, I've recently just graduated from East View High School in Georgetown,Texas. My current GPA is a 3.8. I come from a biracial family, my father is African American and my mother is Hispanic. I grew up watching my parents work multiple jobs just to provide for me and my siblings. I've moved throughout my whole life due to my parents having financial difficulties.Growing up as a child, I would constantly get picked on and made fun of due to my parents being able to only afford second hand clothing. When I was in school I worked really hard to try and maintain a good GPA, not only to make myself proud but to show my parents that no matter what struggles you have in life as long as you work hard you can achieve your goals. My hopes in starting college is to master getting all four degrees. My plan is to focus on the business direction with learning everything there is to learn about Finance,Marketing, and Entrepreneurship with hopes of getting myself into Real Estate. Once I have achieved my goaI as a Real Estate Agent, my vision is to help low income families have an opportunity to purchase and provide a good home to raise their family in.I have a really strong thrive for accomplishing my goals and I will continue to strive to achieve them.

Layla S  on 5/14/2020 12:17:45 PM

Hello! My name is Layla and I am a current junior entering my final year of high school. As I near the end of my high school days, the anticipation of entering my senior year and graduating from high school increases with each passing day. But along with that anticipation, the daunting decisions that I will have to make regarding the path to my future weighs heavily on my conscience. From selecting the major that will prepare me for my career/the workforce, to what college will best suit me, these decisions along with others will significantly affect who I will become as an adult and my overall future. During these unprecedented times, I have focused on filling out for many scholarships in hopes of graduating college debt free. I plan to major in astrophysics, which is considered to be an “expensive major”. There are not many in this field of my stature, more specifically there not many women of color in this field but I hope to change that. With this scholarship, I will be a few steps close to achieving my dreams and aspirations and inspiring others such as me to dream BIG!

I am applying for this scholarship because it will not only afford me the opportunity to pay for college but it will also make me the first in my extended family to go to and subsequently finish a four-year university; something that has not happened in my extended family. I have been admitted into the Computer Science and Computer Engineering majors of 10 universities all of which are great schools but with extremely high costs of attendance. My heart yearns to attend any one of these schools but the costs is always a deterrent. I am hopeful that I will receive this scholarship to make my dreams come true.

Test-Optional Colleges Pledge to Judge Applications Holistically

October 22, 2020

by Izzy Hall

In response to the coronavirus pandemic and the way it has made it harder than ever to take the SAT and ACT, many colleges and universities, from large state universities to small liberal arts colleges, have announced that their admissions for next year’s Class of 2025 will be test-optional. Test-optional admissions mean that schools won’t require a submission of a standardized test score as part of the admissions process. But how will admissions officials judge applicants without a score? Will a student who doesn’t submit a standardized test score be penalized in any way? And will a student who does submit a score be chosen over one who doesn’t? [...]
