Scholarship Description

The Blacks at Microsoft (BAM) Scholarships are designed to support Black and African American students who aspire to pursue careers in technology and need financial assistance for college.

Scholarship Details

  • BAM will award 50 scholarships totaling $212,500: five $20,000 scholarships over 4 years and forty-five $2,500 one-time scholarships.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a US-based high school senior of African descent (e.g., African American, African, Ethiopian).
  • Planning to attend a four-year college or university in the US immediately after high school.
  • Intending to pursue a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, or certain business programs.
  • Should demonstrate a passion for technology and leadership in school or the community.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Require financial assistance to attend college.

Application Process

  1. Apply between January 22, and March 13. Detailed information will be available on the site in mid-January.
  2. Submit one letter of recommendation, preferably from a faculty or staff member, on school letterhead.
  3. Provide a current, complete transcript of grades.
  4. Write an essay of no more than 500 words describing your plans to engage in the technology industry and any exemplary technology-related work during high school.

Applications for the Blacks at Microsoft Scholarship must be submitted online. All materials, including recommendation letters, transcripts, and essays, must be submitted electronically by the deadline. Emailed or mailed documents will not be accepted.
