Since 2004, the Federation’s College Scholarship Program has awarded more than $7M in scholarship funding, supporting thousands of students pursuing higher education at accredited nonprofit colleges and universities. Each year, the Federation awards approximately 70 scholarships, totaling close to $400,000.
Scholarship Details
- The Judy Kay Wendland-Young Scholarship is just one fo the 16 available awards offered by the Bay Area Jewish Federation
- The program offers scholarship opportunities primarily to Jewish women in the Bay Area
- Scholarships are based on merit and financial need
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be female
- Must be over the age of 35
- Must not have previously attended college at an accredited college or university offering bachelor’s degrees
- Must be enrolled in their first year of a four-year undergraduate program at an accredited college or university in the U.S.
Application Process
- Complete the Federation’s scholarship application during the application period
- Answer eligibility questions to determine qualification for available scholarships
- Complete all required short-answer and essay responses
- Request one letter of recommendation through the application system
- Submit a financial aid award letter if available, or provide it when it becomes available
The number of awards varies each year and depends on the number of qualified applicants and the amount of funds available. Typically, we award approximately 70 applicants and distribute nearly $400,000 per year. Award amounts range from $1,000 to a student’s full need. Most awardees receive between $2,500 and $5,000. Some scholarships are for a specified, larger amount.
