"Leftist" Professors Indoctrinating Students?

"Leftist" Professors Indoctrinating Students?

Students are being called to "expose and document" professors "who discriminate against conservative students, promote anti-American values, and advance leftist propaganda" on a new website called Professor Watchlist.

Turning Point USA, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2012 promotes ideas of free-market capitalism and "educates students about the importance of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government." Through this website, Millennial founder Charlie Kirk hopes that "every young person can be enlightened to true free market values...through non-partisan debate, dialogue, and discussion." Individuals can contribute via an open submission form which "brazenly calls out the professors in a public space."

The list contains dozens of comments from professors across the U.S. and all published comments "fall well within the norms of academic and political discourse." One comment, for example, details how a "(t)endured[sic] professor...and an admitted socialist, required students to recite a pledge that describes a racist, sexist, homophobic America. 'I pledge allegiance to and wrap myself in the flag of the United States Against Anything Un-American and to the Republicans for which it stands, two nations, under Jesus, rich against poor, with curtailed liberty and justice for all except blacks, homosexuals, women who want abortions, Communists, welfare queens, treehuggers, feminazis, illegal immigrants, children of illegal immigrants..."

To-date, students and others have submitted "tips and evidence of bias" evident in classrooms and across social media. Some have also recounted the nature of certain academics' professional work and agendas which they push onto their students. Do you support the nature of this discourse and the website? Why or why not? Start a meaningful conversation with your personal opinion.

I am so sick of safe spaces. People on the left have a right to say they are butt hurt about something even when conservative start telling them to move to North Korean or Saudi Arabia. Now when conservative faces someone with a degree who don't earn that much, they turn into crybabies. I am an atheist, and I have come across with professors who tried to push theirs Christian's beliefs on me. You know what I did nothing because they have the right to and just because they did not agree with doesn't also mean they are indoctrinating me. You are in college now grow up. This is when you grow and meet with different people. Are universities force you to believe what they do? If you think they are, then you are just a weak minded person to beginning with.

While my teachers don't force us students to believe a certain point of view, it is subliminally forced through talks and speeches on the effects of the opposite party they opposite and talk about their fears and etc. of the opposition. I have one teacher that doesn't mind stating her political views while two others make it obvious through their speeches and thought processes. I'm not lenient towards one political party so I don't mind hearing out different points of view but it's hard to enjoy a discussion when only one POV is given over and over and it seems like the other side is never considered

I think it is a good idea. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinions, professors should not be able to force their views onto their students. This goes both ways to liberal and conservative teachers. It would be fine to debate the differences in ideologies as long as it is a respectful discussion in which both sides are represented and their viewpoints scrutinized.

This is weird , its like the thought police. Whatever your political views you shouldn't be forcing anyone to think the same way and no one should force you to be quiet about your beliefs either.

This is Hitler's methodology and abhorrent. I've only run into one instructor who tried to push his views on the class by means of the 'textbook' he wrote (it was so bad he had to make Powerpoints to explain it) in which he thanked God and belittled liberal views.

Yes, let's report those people in the USA that think differently than us, the ones that pry open our minds to a larger world view. Let's tamp down freedom of speech. Let's lock up professors that challenge us and help us view the whole world and not just our insular world. Knowledge breeds discontent and creates democracy. And God help you if you believe what I have written here.

Because thinking and encountering different opinions are now considered anti-american!
We make it simple and match you to college scholarships you qualify for.
