"It's OK to be White" is a sign of the times. It's actually become necessary to state the obvious to raise awareness of the anti-white, anti-male bigotry prevalent on University campuses, in the media and society at large. (If you think I am being alarmist, Read Suzanna Danuta Walters' 'Why can't we hate men?' piece in the Washington Post). Being white, black, Hispanic, etc. identifies someone as being part of a demographic. There is indeed nothing wrong with that... except to a bigot. That particular group say's it is not ok and attach reasons like "privilege", "alt right", "history", etc. The usual Marxist social justice crowd. The reason why it aggravates them is because their denying it points out their inherent bigotry toward the targeted group.

BLM is like the feminist movement. They were started out with good intentions, but have veered off course. They are more about making white people feel more guilty than actually solving issues. It's OK to be any ONE of them, or a combination of ALL of them. What the heck is so hard about that? Those who have a problem with ANY of those statements are the people being divisive. Those who are using any of those statements to push one being more important than the other are being divisive. White against Black racism is wrong. Black against White racism is wrong. Black against Brown racism is wrong. Brown against White racism is wrong. Black against Black racism is also wrong, and so is White against White racism. America has lost all concept of truth, and the difference between right and wrong, good and bad. We are falling apart from the inside out. Meanwhile, everyone wants to hold onto their petty little offenses like "I don't like what s/he said" while the entire nation self destructs. Wake up!

I see discrimination against whites all the time in the corporate world. It's like they took "diversity" and the four-fifths rule WAY too far. I think these firms realize they can pay non-whites less money and then actually be praised by utilizing diversity as a guise. This is of course indicative of only my experience, but it is definitely becoming more common. Soon the best way to get into school or a job will be to list yourself as a gay, transgender, Native American-black-Asian.

I don't know the actual basis behind this "It's Ok To Be White" movement, but I think it's ok. No, whites are not under the same discrimination as some other ethnic groups, but especially this year I have seen a lot of movement against whites, labelling everyone Caucasian, especially white males, as Neonazis, racists, and sexists. Yes, there are a lot of whites that are these things, but it's not okay to generalize whites anymore than it's okay to generalize women, or blacks, or any other group. Yes, there are plenty of blacks that are criminals, but there's plenty of white criminals too. Yes, women are physically weaker in average, biologically speaking, but that doesn't mean that they are any less than men, and plenty of women I know are plenty strong enough to kick anyone's trash. Yes, there are plenty of white supremacists, and many white supremacists are not great people, but not all whites are like this. That's what I think the movement is about.

I don't see anything wrong with the phase "it's ok to be white" who ever said it wasn't, it's just like saying it's okay to be any other skin tone. If I saw one of those signs while walking to class, I would wonder three things: who posted it, what kind of person are they, and why they felt need to post up that statement. then I would decide if it came from a divisive place or not.

The question is, why is not okay to be white? People can't control the melanin in their skin at birth. and having a certain color of skin doesn't make you inherently good or bad. The current political climate absolutely despises white people, so much so that white guilt is a major issue among most if not all white Social Justice Warriors. people keep mentioning the context of the signs. WHat context? that a few people on 4chan thought it would be funny to shitpost? this doesn't have some racist double entendre. even then; politics, religon, sexual identity, etc etc should be left out of colleges. its all well and good to believe what you believe, but when you force it upon others; it builds resentment. and many people argue that it has to be racist since it was 4chan. So, a statement made by a bad person is automatically a bad statement? " Words build bridges into unexplored regions " -Adolf Hitler. bad person = bad statement. and if not, check your hypocrisy.

I think these students have failed to understand why the BLM movement exists and in order to continue believing their entitled to that privilege, they tell themselves that their experience should not be questioned and having that privilege should not make them feel guilty. So although the signs themselves are not inherently racist, they come from a white guilt standpoint and continue to shut down voices that need to be heard.

Before I started this I went through the comments to see how others felt on it. People are stating that the Black Lives Matter movement is racist but fail to state exactly how it is racist. The Black Lives Matter movement was created to focus on the unfair treatment of black people in today's American Society. The "It's OK to be white" posters seemed to have been trying to send a message related to racism but in the end people were offended by it because that's how they perceived it. The signs didn't cause the problem nor complaints, the context of the signs did. Others in the comments are stating that the signs didn't have a slight racist edge to them, even after considering the places that they appeared. The Washington Post claimed that the signs were for the maltreatment of white citizens but as far as I'm concerned the white race is privileged when it comes to certain aspects of life.

The signs by the themselves are not problematic, but we have to consider the context. There's an internet subculture, epitomized by communities like reddit's "The_Donald", that are using ideas such as this one to create controversies and in their words, "red pill normies". The alt-right thrives in plausible deniability and by shrouding its ideas in respectability it gains sympathy from moderate whites and other groups that normally would not tolerate its ideas. The fact that this campaign originated in 4Chan shows its true intentions. That community excels in engineering outrage to spread its ideas. Of course its okay to be white. It doesn't need to be stated, but by planting a lawn sign these people are tacitly endorsing the alt right.

I find nothing wrong with these signs. This clearly means some white students got so fed up that they decided to plaster posters and stickers all over campus. At that point, rather than saying "sit down, little privileged kid" maybe we should realize that there's maltreatment among ALL races, whites included. Racism is an issue and it's not specific to one race or another.

Personally, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the signs, of course it’s okay to be White just like it’s okay to be Black or Mexican or whatever race/heritage you are. I don’t think they were needed though. In America we are a very racially divided country, you can argue against that but we are. I think in the times we are living in the times we are living in we shouldn’t just focus on one race at time but all of them because even though I don’t believe these signs meant to do any harm or divide anyone. I do believe there was a better approach to it.

I think that this was the result of frustration of white students. I definitely agree that racism was wrong, but in all honestly, has anyone *ever* seen a scholarship for a white person? There are so many scholarships out there for high achieving minorities, but not many for white people as a majority. In my opinion, there shouldn’t be any scholarships or bias given based based on race whatsoever.

I'm not sure how it is in other places, but in the town I reside, there is far more racism towards mixed race people who only look white. I think its a great idea to open people's eyes up, force them to see everything. After all, I have already heard it being called a "hate crime"? Like, seriously? Does that make me racist for wanting to be comfortable in my own family, or would everyone prefer I began hating myself just because I am not as dark as the rest? My dear friend is black. By saying it is okay to be white, I am not saying he is any less of a person. I'm just saying its not a shitty thing to be who I was born as.

Everyone is getting pushed around, by everyone. Supposed activists bring down others in order to raise themselves. At the same time there are racist who make excuses to justify their behavior. Scholarships have been made to help those who's mistreatment is obvious, completely ignoring the injustices being done to others. Whites are often mocked and vilified for the horrendous deeds of their ancestors. However people tend to overlook the fact that many of the people involved in achieving equal rights were their descendants, who were disgusted by their history. However it is their heritage, and they don't want to loose it. This is why they are doing this, because they are simply scared. Now college campuses are not public grounds though, and therefore it is their right to decide what goes. However they should remain neutral if they are truly interested in achieving a safe environment for all colors, sexuality, and religions. If one group can make a complain, then all should be able to.

I knew about this the day that it happened, and I knew that this would be the immediate response. While many see this as nothing more than an alt-right division project (which has quite a lot of truth to it), I see this as a cultural equivalent of a modern day trial court case. The signs were put up not necessarily to create division, but to expose it. The object of the project was to observe the greater reaction from it, provoking the question "if it really is OK to be white, then why are the signs being torn down and the story circulating as a racist hate incident?" While Black Lives Matter posters (I am not speaking on the movement itself in this case, but the message behind the name) are dotted all across campuses nationwide, the white equivalent is immediately snuffed out as hate or bigotry. The way to beat 4chan is the leave the signs be, since the project relies upon taking offence at a totally harmless phrase. I'm black, btw.

I also think this is not a white supremacist statement. If if were, it would say "Better to be white" not "It's OK to be white." It's not saying that being white is better than being any other color, the very core of white supremacist groups . I do feel an increase in hostility towards not only white, but other races as well. I believe that these signs, were a political statement and are not inappropriate or divisive. In today's society the left has made it seem like it is a sin to be white, or male, or even a Christian. These days you can get a scholarship for being a woman, black, Muslim, a refugee, just about anything but a white Christian male. The students that posted these papers around campus are reminding people that no matter what others say there is nothing wrong with being white.

I see nothing wrong with the signs. There has been a growing stigmatism that white is bad. All of the racial inequality that is projected in this country lately especially with the african american community is not about how they are not treated equal. Its about them pushing themselves ahead as being elite by saying that they are mistreated and using "white" people as a scapegoat as means to push the issue. Every time anything "white" comes to play. Its racial. The postings say. "Ok to be white" it doesnt say "its better to be white" which inturn makes the actions especially done by the powers at be, to be preceived as.. Its not ok to be white.. Which means whites are preceived as not equal and what we are trying to eliminate.. Racial inequality. I can post. Its ok to be lgbtq, its ok to be black, its ok to be hispanic. Etc. It is okay to be white, brown, red, green, purple, or grey. I've seen people of all races turn all of these colors. At various times, I have even been all of these colors. I am weary of being singled out because of my color, no matter what it is today. It has nothing to do with slave ownership or not, but some people always make it about that. I had family that came to America as indentured servants and slaves. I had family that owned slaves. I had family with no money and no status. I also acknowledge that times were different then, and I'm tired of being blamed for it. There are still slaves in every country, now called different names (sex slaves, under-privileged, under-paid, hostages, to name just a few) but they are slaves, all the same. We should ALL stop whining our opinions about it, take responsibility for it, get an education about the truth of it, and WORK to do something about it. Action is much more effective than protest.

Last I remember, every time I fill out official documents I have to check the race box that says I am "white". There is not a box for race that says hispanic, latino, or mexican. Be proud of who you are white people. White lives matter too.

It IS ok to be white...or black or Asian or Hispanic. And it's ok to say it or type it or write it on a sign. There is nothing inately wrong or malicious about that. The question is "why did some people feel they needed to do that?" In my opinion, there is a growing discrimination toward white people simply bc of skin color. What do we call that? Racism. How I wish we could all forget the skin color. Honestly, I think most people have. But there are a few LOUD voices that spread division among our citizens. I believe they are the minority. We who are not racist and don't like being labeled as racist, or privileged, or an underprivileged victim need to figure out how to spread unity in a LOUD way.

Singling out ANY race causes a stir. It should go without saying that it's OK to be WHOEVER you are. Society should not need signs and posters to reinforce the validity of ANY race. ALL lives matter. The problem is, however, our history reflects the poor treatment of minorities by whites and therefore raises up groups that feel they must have a voice and legitimately so. On the flip side of that are the whites who also want a voice perhaps to disassociate from racist mentality and thus "it's OK to be white" becomes the statement. If it isn't okay to be white, then it naturally follows that it isn't okay to be who you are. It is absolutely okay to be white, just like it is okay to be black, Hispanic, Asian, or European. A good trick I learned is to swap out the word "white" with "black" on statements like this. If that suddenly makes it racist, then it was a racist statement to begin with.

In my opinion, the signs were not appropriate because they do create racial tension. Today in the United States, there has been a lot of dispute and division between our nation especially with whites, blacks, and hispanics. Of course it is okay to be white, however, I think it is also important to know why and how white people have been involved in racist history. The sign could very much likely be a message to all saying that not all white people are evil, racist, and conservative. The only problem with the sign is that it does cause racial tension between all races. We are living in times where there is a lot less unity and everyone tries to blame one another instead of coming together and trying to understand one another.

Yes, it is perfectly ok to be proud of your race. However, white pride is typically more associated with racist white groups hence the condemnation of the posters. Maybe the context of the motive changes the story but an initial look at this situation shows a different situation. And for those who decide to compare this to BLM: The organization was created in reference to unfair treatment of unarmed black men, not to hinder progression of other groups. There is no comparison.

Why is this subject considered convoluted when it just says it’s ok? Just stating that whites deserve to be brought up in arguments about racial profiling which has admittedly began to rise recently. Now if this college would remove other signs then by all means i’d accept that, but i cannot say they’d do the same for quotes such as “blacks matter,” or “asians matter.” That’s my opinion on the matter at least.

What's divisive is one group stereotype being permitted to express themselves and being commended for doing so, while simultaneously denying another to acknowledge its own existence. If the idea that a non-violent message must be silenced under the assumption of intent, it's those doing the silencing that have the division on their minds to the point they are helping to encourage its fracturing further by denying 1st Amendment rights and discriminating by deciding upon the intent of the message. I believe that it is okay to be proud of whatever race that you are. I wouldn't say the signs are "inappropriate" but I would say they are not entirely necessary. If compared to the "Black Lives Matter" campaign, the campaign represents more than hurt feelings. If there are going to be "It's okay to be white posters" have a reason toward it and not because of the color of your skin but what the color of your skin means in the society that you live in. Society is developed, not from the colors of the rainbow, but from the shades of history.

It's okay to be proud of being Irish, Czech, Russian, etc.; but "white pride" is not acceptable. "White pride" is different than "Hispanic/Latinx pride" and/or "Black pride" because the pride is based upon being prideful of the culture that surrounds the aforementioned (and those unmentioned) ethnicities/race. People don't lose lives over "Hispanic/Latinx pride;" lives are lost, however, because of showings of "white pride." If you don't think so, what do you consider Charlottesville to be? But my ultimate question is, who ever said it wasn't okay to be white? Are white people that bothered by the demand for racial equality?

The hysteria raised over these signs has revealed the formerly more covert biases of so-called "social justice warriors". If anyone's been reading the news lately, they might've read articles like "IS It Okay to Be White?" (as if they'd never really considered the possibility before...?) and other equally ridiculous nonsense. It's almost hilarious how hypocritical these people are. Rather than focusing on a person's individual value, society has become obsessed with "identities" (race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) and are directing all the blame over perceived injustices on light-skinned people. These signs are not an attack on other races or divisive or inappropriate, it is simply a statement and one that, at this point, needed to be said.

Unacceptable during this time period as it implicitly conveys the inability to acknowledge the upsurge of racism towards those of color. Due to the increase of vocal minorities, some individuals are beginning to feel threatened due to the fact that people of their color have never been portrayed in a negative way in such a way that colored people have - which is understandable. If there was no racism, there would be no need for Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter was a response to not only police brutality but the undeniable truth that colored people are denied many privileges. In a time of blatant contention towards those of color, the simple phrase implies a greater danger. Not too recently the Charlottesville, NFL, and Niger incidents raised a large awareness and support towards white supremacy. By spreading the phrase around, HLS especially, it essentially reinforces one thing: SOME White individuals are apprehensive about having privileges level out towards minorities.

In other words, people saw this as an effort to uplift white people, and white people only, above the rest. Too bad we're too scared of the media to do anything about this...

I completely support the "It's ok to be white" signs. Why? Because, for far too long, far left liberal crazies, through their demented obsession with identity politics, have attempted to demonize and shame white people, simply for being white. They wrongly hold white people accountable for all the atrocities committed by their ancestors (e.g., racism, slavery, conquest, etc.), blaming the sons for the sins of the fathers. All the while ignoring the fact that literally every other race has, throughout history, been responsible for the exact same thing! As Amanda B. pointed out in her comment, if these were signs that read "it's ok to be black." then those on the far left and people like Marcia Sells (see article above) wouldn't be condemning it as "intending to divide us from one another." On the contrary, they would be celebrating it as a bold stand for cultural diversity and inclusion. The bias is sickening. The hypocrisy is typical.

4chan is known for creating social experiments and spreading fake information around the web for the sake of humor. Remember the BaldforBieber hashtag? 4chan. The "flexible" new IPhone? 4chan again. "Pool's closed" written on a poster with a black man in a suit with an afro with the assumption that AIDS were in the pool? Real life raid by 4chan. But this time around, it seems they had a goal in mind; to see if these new signs would spur the idea of racism when viewed by the public. Of course it would--they just wanted to see how much publicity it would get. It's likely that 4chan doesn't even believe in whatever racial message their signs offer, they just wanted a rise out of it. That main intention is wrong to have, of course, but the consequences of what they did are worth looking at. People get on their soapboxes at the drop of the racist hat, and while racism is still present in modern society, the extraneous reactions by responders is disproportionate enough for 4chan to laugh at.

I think it was unnecessary. Never have white people experienced any true oppression that they have to claim that it’s ok to be white. Things like Black Lives Matter are groups created on the oppression of black people. It’s absolutely necessary to bring to light the hardships that follow with being black. White people don’t really need any “meaningful” thing like stickers claiming it’s okay to be white because no one said it wasn’t. POC will say that they hate white people as a generalized statement, and while in some cases it’s not /all/ white people, it’s not necessary to clarify that they clearly do not hate all white people. They’re not saying it’s bad to be white or whatever; they’re simply stating that white people are more likely to say and do more ignorant stuff which can be annoying. Point is, the stickers were unnecessary and probably irritating for students of color to have to see because white people believe they are oppressed.

“It’s ok to be white” signs are less offensive than “Black Lives Matter” signs due to the fact that it is stating plainly that it is ok to be white. Black lives matter state black lives don’t matter. In reality all lives matter to each one of us. Your life matters to you and mine matters to me. Yours may even matter to me as well. There should be no division. Not one live is more important than the other. It’s ok to be white simply states it’s ok to love who you are if you are white. It does not say white people matter more or less however, Black lives matter signs could be precived as such. I mean who is to say a mixed race person did not make the first sign? Has anybody thought of that. What if it’s ok to be white is because that person is part white and feels divided. We all bleed the same color. What if a signs were created that said we all bleed red. Would that be offensive? It is ridiculous what people are offended by today. It is all about perception and how you can benefit.

I find it silly that in such a blooming time the phrase "It's okay to be white" enrages people to the point where we need to ask these questions. People should be allowed to love themselves and feel okay with themselves as long as it does not harm others or infringe on other people's rights and last time I checked being inherently white does not make you do any of those. While I feeling like most would ask "Why do people need this?" Being on both Tumblr and Twitter has really shown me the hypocrisy of this insane age. Being born white will subject people to unnecessary hate, in the same vein as being born black was during the 40's. It's awful. We shouldn't be discriminating at all for innocents but everybody needs a scapegoat I suppose. It's okay to be whoever you are. It's okay. If you're doing good and not hurting others in some way then you are okay.

Thats unnecessary. White people aren't oppressed or being taken advantage of by a system whose foundation was built on racism. The majority group (white people) feel as if they are now being oppressed because equality to them means losing privilege they didn't realize they had. To make things simple, it's like the first law of thermodynamics: energy cannot be created or destroyed. In America we only have so many resources, but unfortunately they are unequally distributed due to our primitive/ racist ancestors in power. All that's happening now is that resources such as money and education are being equalized and are flowing from the top to the bottom so there is no group that holds more power than another. By saying "it's ok to be white," you convey the message to minorities that you're being oppressed and discriminated against because you are white. There is nothing wrong with being white, but when you say "it's ok to be white" it just shows every minority that you don't get it.

White people are not oppressed. The fact that us white people want us to be victimized is ridiculous. You do not go through any oppression when you are white. "But they said all white guys hunt, all white girls wear uggs and like pumpkin spice lattes." Us white people constantly want to be the victims, we have to help minority groups in having a voice. It has always been okay to be white. But being any other race besides white has shown to be disapproved of. There's more to it than just loving the fact that you're white or that you're Asian, Black, Latino, Middle Eastern, etc. Just because you aren't exposed to it or haven't experienced minority oppression doesn't mean it's not happening. White people are favored more than any other ethnic group. People who are dark skinned, or don't pertain to the white features consider themselves less of a person because most white people in this country have made it very clear that their type isn't welcomed with open arms. Us as Americans, need to in all respect wake the fuck up. We are a people, that was united under freedom. True during that time there was slaves and women couldn’t vote. However over the generations we have used the rights of the Declaration of Independence to become free. Yet movements against men still arise, from false statistics and simple biological issues. Then there is in fact movements against whites because of historical backgrounds. Why do people look at the past and attack the now with it as if the new generation created it. Most people look at things from their life experience instead of actual reports and research done globally thus causing these ignorant issues of wanting to tear down signs of saying,”Its okay to be white.” Why? Is being white bad, is it bad that I was born with white skin? Now if you Martin Luther king now he would be using black instead of white. Through triumphant none segregation acts we have formed segregation because of complete foolishness.

There is nothing wrong with this, there is no problem with being white anymore than any other skin tone. The drastic over reaction of the Dean is what the internet was banking on. When something as simple as "it is okay to be white" is labeled as divisive and indicative of white supremacy it is a sign of dark things to come. If these signs are unacceptable does that mean it actually isn't okay to be white? Are we to make white people the new racial "other"? The race baiting in the West needs to end and to do it people need to stop framing everything in the context of racial theory. Privilege doesn't exist. Merit is what should be focused on not quotas.

The people who planned and executed this were looking for the exact reaction that a large portion of the media gave, so congrats, you pantsed yourself. 2. The statement in and of itself is meant only to provoke those who think that it isn't ok to be white, so any outrage makes you look as if you have a disdain for white people. Again, congrats. And 3. It is perfectly fine to be white. No person of any skin color is born with some sort of "Original Sin", but white people are tagged with the sin of racism, even if that individual is not racist. It's okay to be white because it's okay to be white. I've applied for lots of scholarships over the years and all I've ever gotten are a few $200 merit-based music scholarships. I'm in debt, can't afford to go deeper into debt, and had to drop out of school because I couldn't get any scholarships. People think I'm a rich white hipster but actually I did almost 7 years in prison and I'm poor as dirt. The left has failed me 100% and they continue to ramp up the race-based hatred. But I don't care because I've already been through the worst and have lived on starvation diets and when shit hits the fan all these people will be crying and I'll be comfortable because I already have discovered happiness in my situation.

No shame in being white, it's only racism when you start judging someone by the color of their skin, not the content of their character. Reverse racism is also racism.

It's not something i would do, but i don't see anything wrong with this action. "It's okay to be white" translates to, in my opinion, "there are white, racist people in society but we won't allow those people to represent our race". It is a simple message but meaningful to the white people like me who don't have much pride in my own race because of our involvement with racism historically.
