The Heinlein Society will be awarding four $4,000 scholarships to undergraduate students of accredited 4-year colleges and universities. The “Virginia Heinlein Memorial Scholarship” is dedicated to a female candidate majoring in engineering, math, or biological or physical sciences. The Robert A. Heinlein, Dr. Yoji Kondo, and Dr. Jerry Pournelle scholarships may be awarded to a candidate of any gender.
Scholarship Details
- Four scholarships worth $4,000 each
- One scholarship reserved for a female student (Virginia Heinlein Memorial)
- Three scholarships open to any gender
- Winners announced on July 7th
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be entering sophomore, junior, or senior year at a 4-year accredited college
- Must major in Engineering, Math, or Physical/Biological Sciences
- Applicants cannot already hold a bachelor's degree
- Previous applicants may reapply with a new essay topic

- Write a brief statement explaining career goals and background information
- Write a 500–1,000 word essay on one of six provided Heinlein-related topics
- Email the completed application and essay to [email protected] by 11:59 p.m. PDT on April 1, 2025
