Hello, my name is Mataya. I'm a junior in high school wanting to pursue a culinary degree. I will be graduating spring of 2022, by getting this scholarship I would achieve my all time goal. I want to be known for something I want to experience the most that I can, and if I do even get accepted I will not have to start off my career with a tremendous amount of student loans and debt. please help me reach my goal, thank you.

I am in need of financial help while I attend Stratford University culinary arts program in Baltimore, Maryland. I discovered my passion for the baking and cake decorating arts during my 10+ years in the retail bakery grocery store chains such as Kroger, Walmart, and Publix. My goal is to learn everything I can to be successful in opening my own bakery business.

Hello! I am applying for this scholarship because I graduated 2 years early and started my culinary degree in the fall of 2020 and just completed my first semester. The financial situation last semester was tight and I don’t want the financial situation to be the reason why I have to stop classes because it would be very disappointing. Thank you!

I am currently a teacher looking for a career change. Had I realized my passion was for not only food, but the service and hospitality of it as well, I would have never gotten a teaching degree. I started my own business a little over a year ago, I believe that cooking is a gift that God has given me and I would love the opportunity to refine my skills and learn more. I have exhausted all of my financial aid from getting my other two degrees, so I am looking for assistance in trying to finance my culinary school education. I have a husband and three small children, so any amount towards my education of my passion would be so much appreciated.

I have an immense interest in pursuing culinary arts as a career. I have applied and have been accepted to Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI, the opportunity to go to a college that is nationally recognized for it’s impeccable culinary arts program, would quite frankly change my life. I have worked in the culinary arts industry for 3 years now. I have dishwashed at various restaurants and worked myself up to being a current line chef at a local bistro. I am also in the Oneida Herkimer Madison Boces Culinary Arts program through my high school, which allows me to learn skills and techniques early on in my developing career. I believe that my creativity and urge to succeed has made this career best fit for me. To love cooking and food is one thing, the difference between loving cooking and loving cooking the way I do, is that I have a deep passion for it like nothing else that I ever do. Not a day goes by where I don’t think about the various ways to prepare and present food. Some of my idols include Gordon Ramsay, Wolfgang Puck, Buddy Valastro, Thomas Keller, Ina Garten and so many more. I hope that my persistence in culinary arts can one day bring me to a nationally recognized level, I am aware that excellence does not come without years of hard work and determination and I am ready to approach that journey with open arms, and an open mind. At this stage in my high school years, my main focus is trying to find scholarships that will allow my dream to become a reality. My college of choice also comes with a steep price. I will not let that stop me, and will try with utmost effort each and every day to allow scholarship programs to see my urge for success. If I could gather any information though this program to receive a scholarship it would be appreciated more than you could ever know. I hope that I have made my determination visible and I am a viable candidate to receive this incredible scholarship.

Hello I would like to introduce myself, my name is Alycia Smith. I am a 40 year old widow that was a stay at home mom for 15 years. Let me start at the beginning when I fell in love with food. At an early age I knew I had a love for food. My dad had many jobs in my life but the one that I was really interested in was his baking. Anytime he was in the kitchen I would just sit back and watch. As I got older I would help out with the baking and cooking duties. As I got older I knew I wanted to do something with food. I just didn’t know what I wanted to do. At the age of 15 I decided to go look for a job at any restaurant. The only place that called me back was McDonald’s. I worked at a McDonald’s in a local mall. I worked there for about a year then I moved. At the time the bus system wasn’t the best in Salt Lake City Utah so I had to transfer restaurants. I worked at that restaurant for a year. I moved again and gained a family. I really enjoyed how McDonald’s structured their training programs but I really wanted something else. At this time I thought I would try again to get restaurant work. I was living in a tourist town at the time. I was lucky to get a job at the local Mexican food restaurant as a busser then a waitress. I was able to ask questions and be a dishwasher for a few shifts but the management said I was a better fit for the front of the house. So I decided to go to work at the Chinese food restaurant for about a year as a waitress. I tried to get a job in the kitchen but the owner saw different potential in me. I did ask questions and observed as much as I could. I went again looking for a job in the kitchen. The next job I got was dishwasher/ training cook. I ended up being a waitress. Now at this point I figured I was meant for the front of the house. So I went back to McDonald’s for a few more years. They do offer awesome ascentives for management. I was about to join the program but life had a different direction. Now at this point in my life

I have a basket full of memories related to the smells and taste of my childhood. Now that have to compose myself to write this, I remember the my childhood and life experience has been a bit rough for me. I have struggled to make and find anything I could consider my passion, something to properly drive my emotions and energy into. Yet, I have been cooking and baking throughout the entire storm. From the age of six, I made curry scrambled eggs for my family. My mother had a look of surprise in her face. I had to become self sufficient at an early age, though I never saw a problem. Until it came to money, at 14 I was tired of asking my father for funds to spend time with my friends. I got my first job at a sports bar. In the kitchen it was a diverse set of line cooks, each person taking their own personal fancy to certain items they put through the window. I would see the rage and at times hostility that brewed on the line. For whatever reason I was attracted to it. Though I kept my distance for a while due to subconsciously fearing the heat, I worked my way up in multiple restaurants from bus boy to server. I worked positions at an organic pizza restaurant, giving me a little freedom to create at work. Making odd but classic taste for the pizza menu. My first time with a rotating coal oven. Afterwards , I came back to the sports bar. Now I stepped on the line and got my feet wet cooking at high volume. I then began cooking at a more high end American chain of restaurants. Putting more quality dishes through the window. I changed locations and began working at a plant based ice cream concept store. I hadn't thought of gourmet sweets as its own lane until this location. From there I moved to my most recent location. Dukunoo Jamaican Kitchen. I am of Jamaican decent, so this was the greatest home feeling. I stepped on the line here, and within a week, I became head chef. Serving my dishes for the vibrant characters of the city of Miami. Due to covid I have not been in

I have a big family who loves and always cooking so growing up I had a talent for cooking .cooking is in my heart I can feel it I just want to start my own bakery I believe I can do it with all the hard work I put into it I still have a lot to learn more but I’m willing to put the time into it .thank you

I grew up in a better poor city in Mexico where I was thought by my grandma how to cook at a very young age, but unfortunately I had to move to united states (legally) for better opportunities leaving my grandma behind but never her memories. when I turned fourteen I was able to work at a small family own restaurant where I was able to work my way from a dishwasher to the restaurant manager and learned how to cook other dishes and started forming dishes with different origin dishes and my cultural dishes. but I wanted to learn more and since then I been worked in three different restaurants and learning about their food and management. thought I am only seventeen I will continue to learn more about food and restaurant management and get my culinary arts, pastry and baking, and restaurant management degree in the culinary institute of America and then being able to help many small family own restaurant businesses to have a better chance at being successful and giving back to the community and helping immigrants to have better jobs with good benefit.

Growing up I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life. After I graduated High School, I struggled trying to figure out who I was or where life would take me. I started a job in a restaurant right out of high school that I ended up staying at for four years and I would eventually work my way up to be the general manager. Becoming a general manager expanded my knowledge and has helped me grow as a human being. I have been in the restaurant industry for a little over four years now, and within these few years I have discovered my true calling. Being in the kitchen is where I truly found myself and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity that my first job gave me. I look forward to continuing to grow in my passion and learning more every day at The Culinary Institute of America. I know that education is very important, and this will give me the skills and knowledge that I need in order to one day own my very own restaurant. I am looking forward to learning from professional chefs to further my horizon in the culinary industry. I look forward to one day being able to put my education to good use through working my way up as a professional chef and then one day creating my very own menu that will be used in my own restaurant. I want to show the world what I can do with my passion and through hard work and determination I know that I will one day get there. I hope to be one of the best chefs out there with the help of the great chefs of The Culinary Institute of America. I am 10 classes away from completing my Bacholer's Degree at Johnson and Wales. I am a leader in the kitchen and I have 17 years experience. I am a mother not only do I want to set an example for my children that a strong work ethic and education is a solid foundation for sucess. One of my only good memories from childhood is food. My mother would cook and bake for my brothers, sisters and I, until she was hurt at work, while working in a kitchen, that led to many back surgeries. After she was hurt, she wasn't able to cook for us anymore, and that is when i picked cooking up. I now cook for my 3 children. I want to show my kids the importance of going to school and finishing school. I was accepted in to Les Cheneaux Culinary School in Hessel, Michigan, in Michigans Upper Peninsula. With having 3 kids this scholarship would be way more than appreciated!!!

I am trusting that my hard work and academic record proves that I am deserving of this scholarship. I have exhausted all of my efforts with student loans and I am so close to getting my degree in Culinary Arts. I just need help getting to that finish. I am hoping that I will get the help and support I need from you and I will definitely share with friends and family that I know are at my school or some other school to apply as well.
