Scholarship Description

The Friends of Moraine Hills State Park awards scholarships each year to two high school graduates entering the field of environmental studies or natural science. Qualified applicants will reside in Lake, McHenry, or Kane counties Illinois. They must also plan to attend an accredited college or university, plan to major in a field of study and career directly related to the environment, and have a high school GPA of 3.05 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Applicants must complete the application form and submit it along with: At least one signed letter of recommendation from a non-relative who is familiar your goals and aptitude; An anonymous, one-page, 300 – 400 word typed essay using 12-point font. In it, address your motivation and goals for choosing environmental studies and/or natural science, your thoughts about environmental issues, and your related experiences and attributes which will help you to be successful; Sealed official transcripts reflecting your GPA or B average or higher, mailed to you from your current school’s registrar (do not open them).
