Scholarship Description

The WISE (Women in STEM Excel) Scholarship was created by Dr. Alexander Sobel to support, empower, and encourage women in Washington pursuing education in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics. Washingtonian women interested in a career in a STEM field are welcome to apply for this scholarship. The scholarship award is to be used toward tuition and educational expenses, including but not limited to: textbooks, supplies (paper, pens, notebooks, etc.), required technology, on-campus dining, housing, and transportation costs.

The scholarship award will be disbursed directly to the student in the form of a cash prize. The selected student will be required to furnish information necessary to issue a 1099 tax form, including social security number, as part of the process for dispersing scholarship monies. Student will be responsible for any resulting tax obligations. The WISE Scholarship is open to female Washington residents pursuing education in a STEM field. Eligible applicants must be a female Washington resident who is/will be pursuing a degree/career path in a STEM-related field at an institution of higher learning. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation with valid contact information and complete an application form and provide original essay answers.
