Scholarship Description

The New Jersey Press Foundation, the charitable arm of the New Jersey Press Association, is proud to offer a college scholarship of $2,000. This scholarship is specifically aimed at supporting the educational pursuits of New Jersey youth or adult newspaper carriers or the children of newspaper carriers.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Nomination by Newspapers: Newspapers across New Jersey have the opportunity to nominate candidates for this scholarship. There is no limit to the number of nominations a newspaper can make. • Completion of Route Performance Questionnaire: To be considered complete, applications must include a Route Performance Questionnaire, which must be completed by the newspaper's circulation director or a district manager. This questionnaire provides valuable insights into the candidate's performance as a newspaper carrier.

About the Scholarship:

• Origin: The scholarship stems from a trust fund established in 1926 by the estate of Isaac Roth, a dedicated newspaper carrier for the now-discontinued Newark Daily News. • Legacy of Support: The trust fund, transferred to the New Jersey Press Foundation in 1983, stands as a testament to the enduring commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of individuals associated with the newspaper industry.

This scholarship not only provides financial assistance but also recognizes and celebrates the contributions of newspaper carriers and their families to journalism. By investing in the education of these individuals, the foundation aims to empower future leaders in the field of journalism, fostering a culture of excellence and dedication.
