Scholarship Description
To be eligible for the Alice Mahone Scholarship, applicants must: be a senior and accepted by a four year college; submit a copy of their FAFSA Expected Family Contribution Report; have a 3.0 GPA; request from their school counselor a letter of recommendation stating that they meet the scholarship requirements, has financial need, possesses leadership qualities, and has attainable goals; have the school counselor mail a complete transcript with SAT/ACT test scores and letter of recommendation to the scholarship chairperson; and not be a child of a Bedford BPW member.
The winner is determined by a group of three BPW members who read over applications, discuss the attributes of the applicants and make a final choice. A member of the committee makes the presentation at the student’s Senior Awards Program or at a BPW membership meeting. This award is given each year in memory of Alice Mahone, a past president of Bedford BPW and was started by her husband, with the initial scholarship being $100.00.
