Scholarship Description

Payton’s Project offers an annual scholarship program for students who have persevered through bullying or cyberbullying and for those who have actively worked to combat bullying in their schools and communities. The program awards up to $24,000 annually, distributed as $1,000 or $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors and students at accredited higher learning institutions. This scholarship highlights and supports individuals who promote acceptance and tolerance while pursuing higher education.

Scholarship Details

  • Annual scholarship program awarding up to $24,000 in total
  • Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $2,000, with up to 24 awards granted
  • Open to high school seniors and current students at accredited higher learning institutions
  • Focuses on students who have overcome bullying or contributed to anti-bullying efforts
  • Previous recipients may reapply if eligibility criteria continue to be met

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a current high school senior or an active student enrolled in an accredited higher learning institution
  • Must intend to pursue or continue studies at an accredited higher learning institution
  • Submit a video (less than 5 minutes) or a typewritten essay (not to exceed 2 pages, 12 pt, single-spaced) discussing:
    • Efforts to combat bullying in school or community, OR
    • Personal experience of bullying and perseverance
  • Provide two (2) written recommendations:
    • One (1) from a member of the school’s faculty, staff, or administration
    • EITHER one (1) from an educator OR one (1) from a peer, such as a friend, classmate, or coworker
  • Previous Freeze Bullying Scholarship Award recipients may reapply annually

Application Process

  1. Ensure eligibility as a high school senior or active student at an accredited institution
  2. Prepare and submit a video or essay detailing your anti-bullying efforts or personal story
  3. Obtain two (2) written recommendations as required
  4. Submit your completed application through the designated school counselor or institution representative
  5. Await scholarship committee decisions
