Scholarship Description

The Army Women’s Foundation (AWF) recognizes the importance of education and the role it plays in personal, professional, and economic fulfillment. The Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program provides grants to women soldiers, past and present, and their lineal descendants to help them attain their educational goals. The AWF Legacy Scholarship Program offers financial support in four areas: Certificate Programs, Community College coursework, Undergraduate Degrees, and Graduate Degrees.

Scholarship Details

  • Awards are based on merit, academic potential, personal essay, community service, and financial need.
  • STEM-specific grants available to support students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a woman who has served or is currently serving honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, or Army National Guard.
  • Lineal descendants of a woman who has served or is serving honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, or Army National Guard are eligible.
  • Certificate Program and Community College applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Undergraduate applicants must have completed 30 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Graduate applicants must have a completed undergraduate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Proof of honorable service (e.g., DD214, discharge papers, or letter from a commander) is required.

Application Process

  1. Complete the online scholarship application through the Army Women’s Foundation website.
  2. Provide proof of service or lineal descent from a woman who served in the U.S. Army.
  3. Submit a personal essay explaining educational goals and how the scholarship will support them.
  4. Include two letters of recommendation from teachers, employers, or community leaders.
  5. Provide a copy of your transcript or proof of enrollment from an accredited institution.
  6. Submit evidence of community service and leadership involvement.

Scholarships are awarded only for coursework from accredited institutions. Scholarships are based on merit, academic potential, personal essay, community service, letters of recommendation, and financial need. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. According to the U. S. Department of Commerce, STEM occupations are growing at 17%, while other occupations are growing at 9.8%.
