New Futures is a dynamic local nonprofit with a unique approach to fighting inequity: we believe fiercely that shorter-term credentials – associate degrees or professional certifications – are an effective launch point toward rewarding, fulfilling careers. New Futures invests in our scholars with a deliberate combination of scholarships, academic and career advising, access to transformative professional networks, and a lot of heart as they jumpstart careers they love in high-growth fields that will lead to financial security and more equitable futures for all. Since our inception, we have worked with over 450 scholars and awarded over $5 million in post-secondary scholarships. Having strengthened our approach, we are growing our team to build capacity, expand our impact, and sustain our growth.
Each year, we select students in the Fall and Spring to join our Scholars Program. As part of a comprehensive experience, Scholars receive up to $7,800 in scholarship awards, personalized advising, access to skills-building workshops and so much more!
In order to be eligible, all applicants must be pursuing a community college degree or professional certification and live in and attend a community college within one of the following cities or counties: Washington D.C.; Fairfax County; Arlington County; Prince William County; City of Fairfax; City of Alexandria; City of Falls Church; Montgomery County; Prince George's County.
Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 29 and be pursuing a program in one of the following seven industries: Education; Health Sciences; Construction & Trades; Hospitality & Culinary Arts; Business; Information Technology; Public Service.
Applicants must have received their high school diploma or completed their GED (**applicants may apply if they will receive either credential by December 31st of the year they apply for the scholarship). Must have a household income that is no more than 80% of the Area Median Income.
