Scholarship Description

Throughout the United States, Native American communities suffer from a lack of qualified professionals—teachers, engineers, doctors, communication specialists, business managers, social workers and technicians. Well-paying jobs exist in Indian communities, but few Indians are prepared to fill them. Hospitals, dental clinics, schools, engineering and agricultural projects remain understaffed and seriously unable to meet community needs.

Scholarship Details

  • Three programs: MESBEC, NALE, and TBM
  • Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $5,000 per year
  • Awarded based on merit
  • Over 95% of applicants receive a scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an enrolled member with ¼ degree or more American Indian blood from a federally recognized, state-recognized, or terminated U.S. Tribe
  • Exact blood quantum must be stated on the certificate
  • No exceptions to the blood quantum rule

Application Process

  1. Confirm your tribal enrollment and blood quantum eligibility
  2. Apply for one of the MESBEC, NALE, or TBM programs
  3. Submit necessary documentation to verify eligibility and merit

Founded in 1986, Catching the Dream strives to help improve the quality of life in Indian communities through the higher education of Indian people by providing scholarship funds to native college students who demonstrate academic achievement, clearly defined goals, leadership, the determination to succeed, and the desire to return to their communities and help others realize their dreams. The award is offered three times a year (with deadlines of March 15, April 30 & September 15).
