You should add Juvenile Dermatomyositis to your list. It is very rare, and my son has battled it since he was 11. He is now a freshman in college, and because of everything he has went through with his disease, he is planning to pursue a medical degree to become a pediatric rheumatologist.

Hi, my name is Cathy Crowder and I live in Riverside County, CA. I am 50 years old and was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 3 1/2 years ago after several years of challenging medical symptoms. When I was diagnosed it was a relief as I thought some magical medicine would send me on my way, boy, was I wrong! Everyday, I give my best and support those around me to never give up, dream big, and if they want something work hard for it. I put off completing my degree to raise my children and make sure they were priority. They are now all raised and I need to complete my education while sharing with my kids that it is never to late to dream even as we are faced with new challenges. The cost of college is astronomical and the everyday challenges of RA will definitely be with me through my journey. Thank you for reading this and please consider me for this opportunity.

I was diagnosed with JA at the age of 10 and have been living with daily pain.

Lori D.  on 2/2/2021 11:00:28 AM

Hello, My name is Lori Dauphin. Since i was a young girl i have suffered the unbearable consequences of living with Hidradentitis Suppurativa. I was placed on numerous treatment plans alongside starting a weekly dose of Humira through a painful shot at the age of 15. These medications have caused extreme weight gain, depression, and an overall change in mental state. Hour long phone calls on hold and thousands of dollars spent on treatments that can only help so much. Due to Covid-19 impacts, my single mother lost our healthcare insurance and her job. I have not been able to afford the treatment or to visit my doctor in several months . I am hoping to attend Texas Woman's Univertsity this fall and finally have somewhat of a normal college experience unlike my parents but unfortunately with my medical expenses alongside being a Cleft lip child and Club foot child, its seemingly a dream. I can only hope that I can help with this burden and put my mother at ease. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity ! The best way to contact me, Lori Dauphin, is through email (loriddauphin@gmail.com)

Hello, my name is Kaylee Padilla and I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am currently a senior at La Cueva High School and plan on attending college next fall. I applied for this scholarship because last summer, I had four family members pass with one including my dad. My mom and I are financially unstable still from having to bury four family members and having the extra financial assistance who help my single household which would help me get through college. I was diagnosed with JRA when I was 3 years old. Growing up consisted of a lot of medical attention as well as medication which is not cheap. My mom has been my #1 supporter and has cared for my disease's needs for 15 years so by receiving this scholarship it would be an amazing blessing for both my mom and I. Thank you for your time, Kaylee Padilla (kayleep371@gmail.com)

I applied for this scholarship because I am a junior at Sam Houston State University and I am in need of extra financial assistance. I am transgender ftm and I have asthma, psoriasis, depression and anxiety. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in fall August 2018 and had surgery in September to remove my thyroid, where the cancer was located. I would be extremely great full for this scholarship if I am awarded.

I'm not sure if anyone who would know would actually see this, but I'm wondering why Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is not included as one of the applicable diseases. Thanks!
