The SMUD Powering Futures Scholarship program recognizes the value of education and its impact on our communities. Each year, SMUD awards up to $60,000 in scholarships to as many as 21 local Sacramento students. Individual scholarships are valued at up to $4,000, supporting students in achieving their academic and career goals.
Scholarship Details
- Up to $60,000 in total scholarships awarded annually
- As many as 21 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $4,000
- Scholarships are applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment at accredited nonprofit two- or four-year colleges/universities in the U.S.
- Scholarships are non-renewable, but students may reapply each year if eligibility criteria are met
- Preference given to students with majors relevant to careers at SMUD
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a high school senior or college freshman, sophomore, or junior
- Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Must be a current SMUD customer or have parents/legal guardians who are SMUD customers
- Employees and immediate family members of SMUD employees are ineligible

- Semi-finalists will participate in an essay contest
