Scholarship Description

Student journalists, like their professional colleagues, dedicate themselves to covering their communities across platforms. Juggling classwork, part-time work, and journalism activities can often go without reward. The National Press Club and NPC Journalism Institute are proud to administer four scholarships honoring promising future journalists serving their communities. The National Press Club and the Journalism Institute are currently accepting applications for The Lewis Scholarship. Applications run from December until the due date.

Scholarship Details

  • Provides free housing through Washington Intern Student Housing
  • Includes a monthly stipend of $1,000 for the duration of the internship
  • Valued at approximately $10,000
  • Supports internships at news media outlets in Washington, D.C.
  • Awarded to one student each summer semester

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to undergraduate student journalists of color
  • Must secure an internship at a news media outlet in Washington, D.C.
  • Commitment to pursuing a career in journalism

Application Process

  1. Secure an internship at a news media outlet in Washington, D.C.
  2. Complete the scholarship application, including required documentation such as a resume, transcripts, and an essay outlining your goals in journalism.
  3. Submit your application by the specified deadline for the summer semester.
