  • Scholarships and other grants are often referred to as gift aid, because they do not need to be repaid. All undergraduate financial aid at Yale is awarded on the basis of financial need, with the goal of making a Yale education affordable to all students and families. Yale's financial aid resources meet the full demonstrated need of every undergraduate—regardless of citizenship or immigration status—without relying on student loans, for all four years. Applicants from a range of income levels qualify for need-based aid.

Yale’s need-based grant aid for undergraduates, the Yale Scholarship, is a gift and thus never has to be repaid. If a student is awarded financial aid, the Yale Scholarship amount is included on the Financial Aid Award Letter. The Yale Scholarship can vary from a few hundred dollars to over $70,000 per year; the average Yale need-based scholarship is over $50,000. In order to be eligible for this award, applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Hello, my name is Aicha Konte. I’m a senior in high school. I mover to US 2 years ago from Africa to pursue my studies I am applying for this scholarship so that my situation of financial hardship to go to college does not prevent me from my heart’s desire to help people as my future career. My parents are low income and won't be able to pay for my education. I really would appreciate it if I win this scholarship so I can make my dreams come true.

I am an international student, originally from Haiti, studying at SHU in Connecticut, I am in the 2nd session of my 1st year. It is with a lot of sacrifices that my parents allowed me to reach this level. However, with the insecurity, the food crisis in my country, my parents are impoverished and can no longer help me to continue my studies. A dream that is so close to my heart. By winning this prize, my dream will become a reality, namely to finance my studies and help my parents pay off certain debts.
