Scholarship Description

The Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) encourages applications for fellowships for advanced study or research at a Belgian university or institution of higher learning. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States and either have a master's degree or equivalent degree or be working towards a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Knowledge of Dutch, French, or German is optional. Applicants should make their own arrangements to register or affiliate with a Belgian university or research institution. Health insurance is also included.

The BAEF offers two types of fellowships, Graduate Study Fellowships and Research Fellowships. The Graduate Study Fellowships are a non-renewable grant for one academic year for students pursing Master's degrees, doctorates and post-doctoral knowledge. In addition to a completed application form, applicants must furnish undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a brief autobiographical statement, a statement of purpose and three letters of recommendation. Research Fellowships are non-renewable grants for one year as well, and both the requirements and the application process are the same as for the Graduate Study Fellowships.
