I graduated in May 2020 and joined the front lines during the peak of COVID, along with starting a masters in clinical mental health counseling that following Fall. Though, I was let go in October 2021. I hope to be the most effective and best LPC or QMHP there is, I only want to help individuals. Mental illness has rampantly increased and taken lives all over the world during COVID, as well as loved ones/mine personally. As devastated as I was, my motivation and determination to complete my degree and start impacting lives has been nothing but alive! I used to volunteer every Saturday morning at a food bank at an underserved community when I was in college to graduation. I cannot share how many lives have been impacted by mental illness. Instead of being dragged down, I'm trying to stay resilient and persevere. I've juggled jobs, totaled my car (was severely hit & not my fault!), sold a lot of things, and here I am, writing a piece of me in hopes that I will be able to afford school. If only I could share my optimism/resilience and start peoples gears going, burning inside them, only if.

Greetings. I am seeking to apply Elizabeth Garde National scholarship because I am working on my masters in Social Work and I am 49 years of age and seeking to have some accommodations with the economical part of my education. I am a teacher at a well-known High School and really could use the help. They don't offer social work and mental health at the school and told me upon completion, they will create the position to work with the students, which are already familiar with me. I already get them to answer questions without them knowing the psychological path I am implementing, while in their presents. Nonetheless, the cost of living is excruciating and in order to improve my income, I am seeking to improve my education because time is definitely of an essence for my return at mid age.

I am a mom of an adult child with Cerebral Palsy coupled with mental and behavioral health concerns. Throughout her childhood, she has had these problems and while she receives medical care and physical therapy, she never received the mental health behavioral therapy she desperately needed. Because her behaviors had gotten so bad, the available therapists/agencies available were very limited and since the onset of COVID-19, services have come to a halt. I hated seeing her and my family suffer through these terrible episodes so I went back to school, again. I am her physical, occupational therapist, nutritionist, her teacher, and now I will be her Behavior Technician/Therapist. All my education has been paid for out of pocket because my household income exceeds the threshold for grants and most needs-based programs and receiving this scholarship will help ease the burden and stress my education is placing on my family's budget. Concurrently, while attending ASU for a BS in Human and Family Development, I am also attending courses to sit for the Registered Behavior Technician certification. My goal after completion of both programs is to be able to provide Behavior Therapy to those special needs adults who's intellectual age is far less than their chronological age; a population that is severely lacking in ABA services with the intention of going on to achieve my Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis and take the Board Certification of Behavior Analysis. As a first generation college student, the process has not been easy. Due to covid I deferred from my college this past fall semester but am returning in the hopes of fulfilling my nursing and general education pre requisites. This money would not only aid me in buying books necessary for the classes, but materials such as calculators and access codes. I hope to continue into grad school and become a nurse anesthetist.

I am a person who is Irish and I have lived in America for the past years with my husband. I have worked as a CNA since I have been here. I aim to start my prerequisites relatively soon and any help would be very much appreciated. I want to go to school and further my education and help as many people as I can, working in an ICU in Tacoma has been a huge eye opener for me and just made me fall in love with Healthcare even more. My eventual goal is to work in hospice as I got a feel for it when I helped take care of my dad who passed away from motor neuron disease (ALS). I feel like helping patients and being there at the very end and offering comfort and empathy to the people left behind would be a hugely rewarding experience.

After my experience in emergency and trauma nursing, I hope to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and carry out my passion for helping individuals in mental health crises. Many, if not most, of the people in my life have been touched by mental illness and I am a strong advocate of preventative, behavioral health resources that can holistically enhance the quality of lives. My goal is to pursue my doctoral degree and open my own behavioral health practice to care for patients of my own.

My prayers and hard work is to become a Registered Nurse. I am 27 year certified medical assistant who has been in healthcare for six years.I will be the second family member who will graduate from a University. I wanted to further my education to become a nurse because it has been my dream and passion to continue to help those who are in need. I am currently working full time and paying for this degree on my own full time. Times are hard but I know if I keep the faith and keep pushing I can make it. I know that this scholarship will help me a lot so that I can take care of other school expenses as needed. Thank you guys for thinking about us students and wanting to help fund us a helping hand to real our goals.

My hope is to become a Dental Hygienist. I have recently moved out of an abusive family home and this scholarship would help me get further along as I continue my studies to reach that goal. Thank you for your consideration!
