Scholarship Description

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) has a three-part mission to conduct research in coastal ocean and estuarine science, educate students and citizens, and provide advisory service to policy makers, industry, and the public. VIMS provides these services to Virginia, the nation, and the world. Chartered in 1940, VIMS is currently among the largest marine research and education centers in the United States. VIMS partners up with the Garden Club of America to offer scholarships.

The Garden Club of America (GCA) offers merit-based scholarships and fellowships in areas related to conservation, ecology, horticulture, and pollinator research. The Coastal Wetlands Studies scholarship promotes wetlands conservation through the support of young scientists in their field work and research. Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at a university within the U.S. and all field-based study must be in coastal wetlands in the U.S., defined as tidal or nontidal wetlands within the coastal states, including the Great Lake states. A student may apply to only one GCA-sponsored scholarship per year. Applicants must be either a US citizen or a permanent resident of the United States.
