This scholarship honors the legacy of Dawn Stewart, a passionate advocate for alpacas, and will provide financial assistance to aspiring large animal veterinarians with a specific focus on camelids. Scholarship funds will only be awarded to support education at U.S. based institutions.
Scholarship Details
- Purpose: Honor the legacy of Dawn Stewart, a dedicated alpaca advocate, by providing financial assistance to aspiring large animal veterinarians with a focus on camelids.
- Contribution: Livestock breeders throughout the United States are experiencing a shortage of large animal veterinarians. Further, there is a great need for veterinarians who specialize in the care of camelids, specifically alpacas.
- Commitment: The foundation is dedicated to continuous education for alpaca owners, breeders, and fiber enthusiasts, securing a promising future for the alpaca industry.
Eligibility Criteria
- Enrolled in the second, third, or fourth year of an accredited veterinary school.
- Demonstrate intent in camelid animal medicine, particularly alpacas.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Full-time enrollment in a U.S.-based institution offering a camelid (Alpaca) program or relevant classes.
- Submission of résumé, two letters of reference (one from an animal health professor and one personal reference), proof of enrollment, transcript, and current GPA.
- Essay of up to 1000 words explaining passion for large animal nutrition and medicine, specifically the desire to serve the alpaca community.
Application Process
- Complete the online application available on the National Alpaca Foundation's website.
- Submit résumé, letters of reference, proof of enrollment, transcript, and essay.
- Ensure all application materials are postmarked by May 1st.
Scholarships, totaling $3000 each, will be paid directly to the school in September.
