Scholarship Description

The Cancer Fighter Scholarship awards $1000 to up to 10 high school seniors who have been leaders in the fight against cancer. We believe that "cancer fighters" can come in a number of forms. Some have battled cancer themselves. Some help a loved one or friend through their own fight. Some have been leaders in their school and community in the fight against cancer.

Scholarship Details

  • Up to 10 scholarships of $1,000 each awarded annually
  • Open to students attending any post-high school institution in the U.S.
  • Award recognizes personal, supportive, or community-based leadership in the fight against cancer
  • Financial need is not a factor in the selection process
  • Videos may be featured on SMAC’s website

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a graduating senior from a public or private high school
  • Must be planning to attend a two-year or four-year college, vocational, or technical school in the U.S.

Application Process

  1. Create a 60–90 second video explaining how you’ve been a cancer fighter and what you’ve learned from the experience
  2. Include the phrase "Peace out, cancer" at the end of your video to qualify
  3. Complete the short online application form with your contact information, high school details, GPA, college plans, and extracurricular activities
  4. Upload your video through the application form
  5. Submit your full application and video by the published deadline

All video submissions must be created by you and the content must be appropriate for publication on SMAC’s website. Video must be 60 - 90 seconds long, no more than 50 MB in size, and submitted in one of the following formats: .mov, .mp4, .mpg, .mpeg, .avi, .mwv. Video must not infringe on third-party rights.
