Since 1977, the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society has honored the music and memory of Glenn Miller by offering an annual scholarship competition open to high school seniors and college freshmen who intend to make music a part of their future. Students from across the country apply for the scholarship and vocal 10 semi-finalists, and 10 instrumental semi-finalists are chosen to compete at the Glenn Miller Festival.
Eligibility
- Must be a high school senior or college freshman
- Music major or planning to make music a part of your future
Application Requirements
- Completed Application Form. Only enter one category; vocal or instrumental.
- Audition Tracks. Must upload two music choices to YouTube. Must be of contest level material in contrasting styles. Any accompaniment must be piano only.
- Statement of Musical Intentions. Three to four paragraphs addressing how music will be a central part of your future life and why you wish to compete for the scholarship.
- Competition Checklist. This will help ensure you have completed all of the required documents.
Three winners are selected from each category and perform at the Stage Show the next day during the festival. The Glenn Miller Society awards a total of $12,000 in scholarships each year. Do not apply if you are unable to travel to clarinda, iowa on june 5th for the competition.
