Scholarship Description

Upakar was founded to support the educational and career aspirations of the Indian American community, and continues to make college more accessible for academically accomplished, financially deserving students.

Scholarship Details

  • $10,000 over 4 years at a university ($2,500 per year)
  • $2,000 over 2 years at a community college ($1,000 per year), plus $5,000 over 2 years if transferring to university ($2,500 per year)
  • Scholarships are renewable annually if GPA and full-time enrollment requirements are met

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be either born in the Republic of India or have at least one parent born there
  • U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder)
  • Graduating high school senior currently residing in the U.S.
  • Cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Must plan to enroll full-time at an accredited, not-for-profit 4-year university or 2-year community college starting in the fall of the scholarship year
