The Norman S. Baldwin Fishery Science scholarship is intended to promote academic excellence by encouraging young scientists to undertake graduate research in fishery biology and to enter the field of Great Lakes science.
Scholarship Details

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be conducting graduate research in fishery biology related to the Great Lakes
- Research should have the potential to make a significant contribution to Great Lakes fishery science
- Must agree to present supported research at the IAGLR Annual Conference on Great Lakes Research if selected
Application Process
- Complete and submit the online scholarship application
- Provide a brief title and extended abstract describing your research
- Submit a statement explaining the relevance of your research to fishery science
- Upload your current curriculum vitae in PDF format
- Upload unofficial or official transcripts in PDF format
- Provide the name, affiliation, and email address of your supervising professor
- Ask your supervising professor to email a PDF letter of endorsement directly to IAGLR, including your name and the scholarship name in the subject line
- Ensure the endorsement letter includes your professor's contact information, your academic progress and expected degree completion date, and an evaluation of your academic ability, aptitude and eligibility
Norman S. Baldwin was the first executive secretary of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission. Norm led the commission for 15 years, from 1957 until he died, tragically, in 1971. He was widely recognized as a scientist and as a leader, well-qualified for the challenge of leading a newly formed international commission. Norm is fondly remembered by his many colleagues in the Ontario government, the GLFC, and its many partner agencies.
