  • The Sustainable Agriculture & Forestry Scholarship Endowment Fund invites qualified students to apply for the upcoming fall season scholarship. Applicants must have a demonstrated strong interest in and commitment to completely sustainable* agricultural and/or forestry practices, be committed to protecting and preserving our natural resources and related economic and social conditions, and have strong communication skills and possess leadership characteristics.

    Sustainability embraces many disciplines, methodologies, and institutional practices. Therefore scholarship recipients are those who seek to be exposed to skill and knowledge building about changing environments and human health; energy, climate, and built environments; the power of culture and society; and ethics, economics, and public policy. (This is as described in University of Iowa’s Certificate of Sustainability overview.)
    Eligible Scholarship recipients must come from one of the 11 Southeast Counties of the State of Minnesota (Rice, Goodhue, Wabasha, Steele, Dodge, Olmsted, Winona, Freeborn, Mower, Fillmore, and Houston counties) and attend educational public or non profit private institutions/programs in the five state area of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota. $43M in Loans Forgiven for Students of Closed Colleges

The federal government discharged more than $43 million in student loan debt for former students of recently closed for-profit colleges. Students who attended programs operated by Education Corporation of America, Dream Center Education Holdings, Vatterott College and Charlotte School of Law will be able to qualify for a full discharge of their federal loans if they were enrolled when their college closed or withdrew within 120 days of the official closure date and didn’t transfer to another institution, according to Inside Higher Education.
