Scholarship Description

In support of design education, the TDC has awarded scholarships to promising students of typography since 1994. Currently, four scholarships are available. The Ezhishin Scholarship is for Native American and First Nation individuals in the US and Canada, respectively, who exemplify a creative practice that explores typography, type design, or relevant linguistic work. The Ade Hogue Scholarship ill be awarded to an outstanding BIPOC student currently in their junior year or in their first year of graduate or postgraduate school, who demonstrates exceptional talent and promise in the creation of letterforms, be they typeface, lettering, or calligraphy or in typographic design. The Beatrice Ward Scholarship is offered to a female college junior whose work demonstrates exceptional talent, sophistication, and aptitude for typography, lettering, type design, and/or design criticism. The TDC Scholarship recognizes students' achievements in and appreciation for typography in design.

The TDC celebrates and amplifies the undeniable power of typography. We are a global community united by the shared belief that type drives culture and culture drives type. Established in 1946, the TDC today curates a calendar of typographic intrigues designed to: build a community through public events and platforms; support the growth of students and early career professionals; and recognize excellence in type design across the world.
