The Kaiser Permanente Northern California Medical Student Scholarship supports third-year medical students who are committed to serving underserved communities and pursuing careers in healthcare. Scholarship Details
- Scholarship award of $2,500 for eligible students
- Open to students attending accredited medical, osteopathic or podiatric schools
- Recipients are encouraged to complete a one-month clerkship at a Kaiser Permanente Northern California Residency Program during their fourth year
- An additional $5,000 travel stipend is awarded after successful completion of the clerkship
Eligibility Criteria
- Be a current third-year medical student in good academic standing
- Expect to graduate in the spring two years after applying
- Submit all required supporting documentation by the application deadline
Application Process
- Complete the online scholarship application during the September through November application period
- Prepare a current curriculum vitae
- Write a short essay of no more than 500 words describing your community involvement and commitment to underserved communities
- Obtain a letter from your medical, osteopathic, or podiatric school confirming your good academic standing
- Request two letters of recommendation, including one from a professor or clinician and one supporting your work with underserved communities
- Upload all supporting documents and recommendation letters in PDF format through the online application
- If selected as a finalist, participate in a phone interview in February
- Await scholarship notification in mid-March
