Scholarship Description

WTS launched the Leadership Legacy Scholarship in 2007. Through this award, WTS provides support to an outstanding young woman pursuing graduate studies working toward a career in transportation or a related field, and who demonstrates a specific interest in advancing transportation innovation in the international arena.

Scholarship Details

  • Focuses on graduate students pursuing careers in transportation or related fields
  • Emphasizes sustainable communities and public transit innovation
  • Award presented by the Portland chapter at the December Winter Gala
  • Attendance at the awards dinner is strongly recommended

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to all women
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Currently attending a junior college, trade school, college, or university in Oregon or Southwest Washington
  • Enrolled in a transportation-related program such as engineering, planning, finance, communications, operations, or logistics
  • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
  • Not previously awarded a WTS scholarship at the graduate level

Application Process

  1. Complete the scholarship application form
  2. Submit an essay outlining your transportation career goals and leadership experiences
  3. Provide letters of recommendation
  4. Include documentation of academic record and transportation-related activities or job skills
  5. Submit your application by the specified deadline

Scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific transportation career goals; leadership, especially related to transportation; academic record; transportation-related activities or job skills; writing skills; and letters of recommendation. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply. Portland chapter awards will be presented at the December Winter Gala; attendance at the awards dinner is strongly recommended.
