The New Hampshire Department of Education Higher Education Scholarships for Orphans of Veterans was first established by the New Hampshire State Legislature in 1943 after World War II left so many in the in the Granite State orphaned or with only one parent. The Scholarship provides $2,500 scholarships to children of New Hampshire service members who died on active duty or of service-connected disabilities to attend public colleges and universities, as long as they do so within the state of New Hampshire.
The funds are to be used for room, board, books, and supplies at New Hampshire public colleges and universities. Since 1981, the Legislature has also allowed qualified children of fallen veterans to receive free tuition through the University System of New Hampshire and Community College System of New Hampshire. Other than the aforementioned specified criteria, this scholarship doesn't otherwise have too many restrictions.
