  • Scholarship Description
  • Applicants for the Herb it Forward Scholarship must be residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or the Philadelphia area counties, who are applying to or are students of accredited programs at colleges, vocational, or technical schools in the United States. Open to all students who are graduating high school or will complete homeschooling in 2019 or who previously graduated high school, received their GED, or completed homeschooling.

    Applicants must either be a senior in high school at the time of application or in their first year of education at a college or vocational/technical school. Previous winners of the Herb It Forward scholarship cannot apply. Only fully completed applications, which include a transcript, GED, or State Certification will be considered. All applicants must state clearly in their application material how they have helped their community in the past and how they have chosen career paths to help in the future. $43M in Loans Forgiven for Students of Closed Colleges

The federal government discharged more than $43 million in student loan debt for former students of recently closed for-profit colleges. Students who attended programs operated by Education Corporation of America, Dream Center Education Holdings, Vatterott College and Charlotte School of Law will be able to qualify for a full discharge of their federal loans if they were enrolled when their college closed or withdrew within 120 days of the official closure date and didn’t transfer to another institution, according to Inside Higher Education.
