In alignment with our mission, Go On Girl! has supported up and coming authors since 2000 in the form of scholarships and awards. Authors of the African diaspora offer a rich perspective on life and are often missing in the mainstream promotions of literature. So, it is our honor to encourage responsible writing of this beautiful literature. The Unpublished Writer Award and The Aspiring Writer Scholarship is also our way of strengthening the world community’s recognition of literature written by people of the African diaspora.
To be eligible for the Aspiring Writer Scholarship, applicants must: be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States; be an incoming full-time sophomore, junior or senior at any historically Black College or University; and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicants must submit a 500–1000 word essay on an assigned topic (submissions should be double spaced and bear the title and author’s name and word count on the title page). In addition to the essay, applicants will also be required to include an unofficial college transcript, their photo and a short biographical sketch.
