Scholarship Description

Massport’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion/Compliance offers a scholarship to attract students of color to pursue careers in the transportation industry.

Eligibility

To be considered, graduating seniors must be:

  • A student of color
  • A resident or school attendee in the City of Boston or Massport’s Neighboring Community (East Boston, South Boston, Chelsea, Charlestown, Winthrop, Revere, Worcester, Lexington, Lincoln, Concord and Bedford)
  • A high school senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Accepted to an accredited college or university
  • Involved in community service or employment outside of school
  • Interested in pursuing a degree that could be utilized in the Transportation Industry. Areas of study may include but not limited to Aviation, Maritime, Real Estate, Business Administration, Accounting, Architecture, Engineering, Finance, Diversity, or Human Resources

Required Application Materials

  • A 1000-word essay describing your interest in pursuing a degree that could be utilized in the Transportation Industry. You may also write about how your community service contribution has affected your outlook on life. Essay should be typed and double-spaced.
  • A short description of the community service or employment you have been involved in including names of organizations, dates of service, and contact information. Descriptions should be typed and double-spaced.
  • Proof of residency or school location (examples include a copy of a utility bill addressed to a parent or State issued ID). Residency or school attendee in City of Boston or Massport’s neighboring community
  • Original copy of your High School Transcript with official seal and cumulative GPA listed.
  • Copy of an accredited college or university letter of applicant acceptance for the coming academic year.
  • 2 letters of recommendation, one MUST be from the community service agency where applicant has volunteered or from a supervisor at applicant’s employment.

Two $5,000 Diversity STEM Scholarships will be awarded annually to eligibile students. Please read the eligibility requirements thoroughly and carefully and make sure to submit all required application materials when applying.
