The Cooper E. King Memorial AFS Scholarship Fund has been established at the Maine Community Foundation.
The scholarship, set up by Linda and Dennis King, honors the memory of their son, who traveled to Belgium as an American Field Service student in his senior year at Ellsworth High School and returned home with a fascination and appreciation for foreign cultures.
Eligible applicants are Maine high school students enrolled in an American Field Service Program. Preference will be given to applicants for whom the experience promises to be life changing, especially those students who have not traveled widely or experienced life beyond their community.
Ellsworth High School students will receive priority consideration, then Sumner High School students, residents of Hancock County and residents of Maine. There is no application for this scholarship. The recipient will be chosen annually from the pool of Maine high school students who have been accepted into an AFS School Program. A volunteer advisory committee will select the scholarship recipient each year.
